I saw three of the actors who have been cast on the show (I've never heard of them), and it's supposed to be set after Romulus gets blown up (the event Spock Prime mentions in Star Trek 2009 ), but that's all I know. The expectations for this show will be a lot bigger than for Discovery.

As I mentioned in this post, they seem to be going for the Kelvin timeline.

Hopefully Q will appear and reset the timeline(that would be fun)

That wouldn't surprise me.

I hope so at least some lighthearted comedy (something DISC lacked prior to Pike appearing)

That would be nice because Sir Patrick can definitely do comedy. Going a little OT, it feels like (to me at least) that the production of this show is taking forever, which reminds me of how screwed up I think Bond 25 is going to be.

The last thing I heard there were already problems during production(watch link ) it seems like the problems they had during production of DISC are repeated again maybe CBS should sack the entire board of directors and place some people who like Star Trek and know what Star Trek is about on the board.I believe Braga and Berman now when they told in an interview that when the new board of directors took place in 2000/2001 that some of them hated Star Trek and in particular the carte blanche the previous board had given the Star Trek producers from 1987-2000

From Star Trek Picard Show Begins Production :

One area that demonstrates how this is a different TV show is that Patrick Stewart is the only returning Trek veteran as a series regular. CBS has announced six additional castmembers with Santiago Cabrera, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway, and Isa Briones. CBS has not provided any details on the characters the new cast will play.

While it is always possible for some of Stewart’s TNG-era costars to appear on the show, there has been no indication that they will do so. Last September Marina Sirtis noted: “When Patrick said ‘Jean-Luc Picard is back,’ he didn’t say TNG is back.” Some of the TNG cast have indicated a willingness to participate if asked, including Wil Wheaton.

Executive producer Alex Kurtzman has also stated that the show will deal with the aftermath of the events of the 2009 Star Trek film which take place in the Prime Timeline, specifically the destruction of the Planet Romulus in the year 2387 following a supernova.

So, does that mean the Kelvin Timeline is now the Prime Timeline?

Will we see Chris Pine reprise his role as the new Captain Kirk in this show (e.g. timetravel, the Nexus)?

You are absolutely right! As a matter of fact, when CBS came up with the idea for a streaming service and decided to have a Star Trek show as the flagship series, a man by the name of Leslie Moonves was the head of the CBS network. He was very pro-trek. However, around the time of Discovery's debut, his history of sexual harassment and possibly assault came back to haunt him, he was fired and lost millions in bonuses he was due to get. So of course his replacement isn't that much of a Trekkie. But, since DSC got renewed for season three (thank you Anson Mount) whoever's in charge there is giving the show a chance.

No no no not the Nexus which was absolutely the worst thing in Generations since the writers failed to use it to it's full potential and gave us some lame excuse to have Kirk and Picard meet and have Kirk (while enjoying his retirement inside the Nexus)because of some poorly thought out half-assed plan die and let his corpse rot on a hill on some remote obscure planet.Never mention the Nexus again the writers who follow these boards might pick up some bad ideas.

I doubt any writers are lurking on this board. Though the suggestion of "Red Angel" linked to "Burnham" and "time travel" did pan out, but, on the other hand, those episodes had already been written and produced (albeit not aired yet) before its mention on this board. wink

No - you need to expand your emphasis a bit:

"the show will deal with the aftermath of the events of the 2009 Star Trek film which take place in the Prime Timeline, specifically the destruction of the Planet Romulus in the year 2387 following a supernova. "

In the 2009 movie everything before Spock (accidentally) created the wormhole and went to the past is in the prime timeline, everything after is in the Kelvin timeline. i.e.

  • Supernova

  • Romulus Destroyed

  • Disappearance of Spock

  • Romulan Mining ship Narada also disappears with all crew

@Joe79 sunglasses Didn't Santiago Carbera play the Persian Emperor in the movie 300?

Rodrigo Santoro played the Persian King Xerxes in the movie "300 (2006)".

Here's a picture with both of them (Rodrigo Santoro and Santiago Cabrera) together. relaxed

Thanks.

I hope they have the good taste to make the show at least in the style of the TNG era stuff and in spirit of Roddenberry not the doom and gloom and everybody is so horrible of DISC season 1 ,can we please have an optimistic view the whole idea was some future utopia not some gloomy EMO dystopia.
