I second that suggestion.

I am getting a bit depressed with all these new so called gritty and realistic remakes of old series TV should provide escapism we already get enough doom and gloom in the news and daily life .i think that is also the appeal of The Orville despite it being a comedy show it's underlining message is that of optimism.

I have been appalled at all of the tv shows from 20 years ago that have been brought back either original cast (like Murphy Brown), or rebooted (as in Magnum P.I.). And let's not forget Disney making live-action versions of all the animated films they made 20 years ago. ENOUGH I say! It's laziness. Simple laziness.

I hope the studios will realize this soon because they can't keep shoving this bad rehashed crap down our throats forever and considering the popularity of Netflix where original shows and movies are produced Hollywood has to catch up quickly otherwise they risk that within 10 years they won't exist anymore.Scorsese's upcoming The Irishmen (featuring De Niro,Pacino and Pesci who came out of retirement) might become indicative of the future of movies. It will be Netflix's first big budget film ($ >200 million budget) if that becomes a big commercial and critical succes it could show the old studios that a big budget original movie is still commercial viable. And also could show Netflix that it is interesting for them to make more original movies without having to rely on franchises, remakes or reboots.

CAST (so far):

Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard.

Santiago Cabrera as Lawrence (unconfirmed):

the pilot of Picard’s ship who also is a skillful thief.

Michelle Hurd as Alana (unconfirmed):

a former intelligence officer who is a brilliant analyst with a terrific memory that has not been affected by her drug and alcohol abuse.

Evan Evagora

Alison Pill

Harry Treadaway

Isa Briones

CHARACTERS:

Jean-Luc Picard: a retired Starfleet Admiral, who commanded the greatest rescue armada in history.

Lawrence: a handsome man in his 30’s of any ethnicity. . . who has a dodgy moral compass. He’s the pilot of the ship Picard takes on his mission. Being a capable (and enthusiastic) thief, his loyalties are questionable.

Alana: a female in her mid-40s to mid-50s and is of any ethnicity. She’s a brilliant analyst and has a great memory despite abusing drugs and alcohol. Often times she gets irritated with her own vulnerability and is certain of herself, even when she’s wrong. A former intelligence officer, she sees conspiracies everywhere. Her professional and personal losses weigh heavily on her.

Starton: a male of any ethnicity in his early 30s. He specialises in positronic brains and is terrified of space. He’s charming in a self-deprecating way and is excited about the research opportunities on Picard’s mission. It goes on to say that his demeanor will evolve over the series, but it does not say in what way.

Connie: a female who is also in her early 30’s. She’s African-American and has a quick temper, but is also quick to forgive. In addition to dealing with the loss of her husband, she is also avoiding a death sentence on her home planet. She’s a mercenary pilot who uses her ship to transport people to and from an artifact of some kind, though the ship is massively overqualified for that job.

Dr. Smith: a male in his 30s or 40s of any ethnicity. From the description, it sounds like he’s an upgraded or wholly new version of the EMH. He’s described as a hologram who helps the crew through emergencies encompassing engineering, tactical, science investigation, and medical issues. He was programmed to learn but not become too self-aware. He’s calm, efficient, and empathic, but he sometimes has difficulties sorting out others emotional reactions to get at the facts.

K’Bar: the youngest of the leads. He’s a 17-year-old Romulan and the only child of what’s a mainly female Spiritual Order. A martial artist and considered a lethal weapon, he’s prone to mood swings and is committed to living in the moment with as much transparency as possible. He takes his devotion to Picard and his mission EXTREMELY seriously. . . obviously, they’re looking to find someone with Martial Arts experience, but also note that fencing is a plus as well.

Indira: a female in her early 20s of any Ethnicity. She’s extremely smart and physically agile . . . but maybe not so mature and a bit socially challenged because she tries too hard. Her intelligence often gets in the way of her manners. She’s cut off from home and her difficult mission puts a strain on her maturity. She’s still “finding her way in the wider world”.

Sounds interesting.

Forget all the above everything has changed there were some problems with the Picard show it is not going to appear on Netflix since they rejected the whole concept of the new show which they wanted to be less like Discovery and more like old Trek production was halted for a month since CBS is not going to pay for the total production which according to inside sources is quite high (because Stewart gets his biggest pay check ever for the show) .So for DISC Trekkies outside the US still watch Netflix(because of a previous contract and according to inside sources is a ratings and subscribers disaster for them) but if Trekkies outside the Us wantto watch the new Picard show they have to subscribe to Amazon Prime so I guess that means either they pay for Netflix or for Amazon Prime but one of the shows is going to suffer.

Wow! They chose the name for the new series and it's exactly like the title of my OP.

Someone from the production team lurking around? wink grin

I agree with you. It's complete madness to have to subscribe to another streaming service to watch a single show. Before the existence of these services, you could just tune into a (public) television network in your country, that would've bought the broadcasting rights. As you said in another thread:

Oh well, if "Star Trek: Picard" is any good, you can always consider buying it. If not, you won't have to watch the mess TPTB made of the show.

Thanx Wonder my prediction for the Picard show World wide distribution (with the exception of the US) is that it will tank for the reasons previously mentioned also having ENT should have served as a reminder that putting Star Trek on special pay for channel won't work because that show also tanked because it was on SyFy and look what happened then also there is another issue that as far as I know Amazon Prime is not available over here and my guess that applies to more countries losing a large number of potential viewers before the show even gets started and my guess is that even when amazon Prime comes available there is no guarantee that viewers wil take up two services and for most Trek fans Netflix is still more appealing because one can watch all the other trek shows over there.

The lady playing Indira, Michelle Hurd, was a regular cast member of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (second season).

The last time I saw her was in "Blindspot (2015-)".

Side note:

As far as I know, rumours are that Michelle Hurd is going to play Alana.

More information will also be posted here.

so after TOS,TNG,DS9,VOY,ENT,DIS we call the new show PIC or STP?
