Discuss Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

So at the moment there is no real buzz about this movie despite being Star Wars. Tons of crazy theories including time travel. Galaxy's Edge theme park is tanking. The toys are tanking because kids aren't interested in these awful new characters. Rumors that George gets a 25% kickback for original trilogy content which would explain why Disney has gone out of its way to ruin the old characters. I'm sure it'll still make money, just not as much as the first two.

So how much do you think this is going to suck? They're going to photoshop Leia in to it, Finn's probably still going to be a coward lusting after a woman who's more interested in an evil murderer, Poe will attempt to be witty and tell a joke in a tense situation, the Emperor is in there doing something, all of Lando's scenes will probably shot with him sitting down because even he can't be bothered to put in any effort for this, Hux will get a Force wedgie, they probably have to stop another planet killing weapon, there will be some kind of anti-Trump reference, Rey will turn out to be Space-Jesus.

What am I missing?

88% audience score on RT right now. That just dosent seem legit to me. I mean the critics hate it but the brain dead fans love it? What is this bizzaro world? I think predictions are $160+ million opening which would make this the only film in the new trilogy to not debut over $200 million in its first three days. Christmas week/weekend will probably help it alot in the long run but I just dont see this breaking a billion anytime soon.

you answered your own question; 'brain-dead fans loved it'.

Best SW movie so far.

RT is a rigged scoring system. RT doesn't include any scores lower than 2 stars in the average. Fresh is anything that is 3.5 or above. Also the score they present on the web site is based solely on tickets sold through Fandango. You have to click through to the All Audience to get the ratings from everyone. But still, it is culled to exclude any scores below 2 stars. I would trust Metacritic over RT.

100% agree. RT lost all credibility after the Captain Marvel fiasco. As of right now Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker delivered $40 million from Thursday evening previews. The performance comes in $5 million behind the $45 million preview gross for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Thursday Previews: $45 Million (42.9% of Friday Gross) Friday Gross: $104.68 Million (47.5% of Weekend Gross) Weekend Gross: $220 Million China only brought in $3.6 Million.

Looks like it's sucking at about 50% Gus.

You should be more of a glass half empty guy when it comes to movies then you won't inevitably get disappointed.

I agree. People call me pessimistic for having such attitudes. I'm not pessimistic; I'm realistic. Most of the time, Life sucks. Accept it.

Yeah and it wouldn't be like Disney not buying positive reviews by paying for tickets.$6 times 10,000 reviews is only $60,000 that is cheap promotion certainly on around 400-500 million promotion budget.Plus one of the biggest markets outside the US China is projected to earn only a total of 18 million during it's theatre release.Compare that to the 124 million TFA made and Solo with 42 million TROS without the Chinese market will find it hard to make a profit. And once again the take of the openings weekend have been adjusted downwards with an estimated 160-190 million.

It had a $175.5 million three-day debut. However, it is the only Star Wars release of the five released by Disney thus far, to see the Friday gross make up over 50% of the film's total opening weekend, which brings into question what kind of impact word of mouth will have on the film's final gross. Internationally, Rise of Skywalker delivered a $198 million debut overseas from 52 markets, China only helped with $12.1 million of that.

Im really starting to wonder if this will break 1 billion or how long it will take to do so. This movie is under performing and will be lucky to hit a billion. TROS should be doing Endgame numbers. It is promoted as the last in the saga. So these numbers should have been much better. And no one can deny that. Kennedy is 100% done once her contract is up. She will hopefully be handing SW over to Jon Favreau who is killing it with The Mandalorian right now.

Except that Marvel clearly planned out all their movies and effectively built up to their villain and their climax so that everyone was excited to see how it ends. The biggest mistake Disney SW made was flying by the seat of their pants and relying on name brand alone to bring in audiences instead of focusing on telling a coherent 3 act story across all the 3 films.

Granted the main Disney SW made lots of money but they surely would have made so much more had they focused on telling a good story with likeable characters that all meet up and interact for the first time in the first movie instead of the last.

They should rename the Disney Star Wars into Star Woke.😆

Completely agree. They def just went with brand recognition and were banking the fans would just eat any shit they put out. I think SW will be getting help from the Marvel team for sure. They are probably already planning new films as we speak. Hopefully they will honor the old ones but also start a whole new chapter in the universe that fans can latch on. I feel like the last two SW films will be looked downapon by hardcore fans and loved by newer younger fans as time goes by. Disney has so much material to pull from they could easily make new films.

Monday saw a -27.1% domestic drop, but maybe Christmas day will help pad its numbers tomorrow.

In China it battled over third place with the Chinese made Ip-Man 4 at number one

The 71 % drop off in the second week is quite revealing I would guess.I guess people liked Jumanji better. smile

It still might make 1 billion wolrdwide, which would be truly sad because it just means a lot of people will still pay to see anything with a familiar label slapped on it no matter how lazy the product is.

True. I’ve come to accept this reality too, being a pro wrestling fan in America for several decades in the past. No matter how bad something seems to get, if it has a name or label people know, a lot of them will just support it out of habit/recognition.

One billion still might not be enough for it to break even considering the production budget of the movie is around 400 million add the same amount of money for promotion and even if it makes 100-200 million it will still be considered a failure.

Star Wars is the new Transformers. Billion dollar crap.
