Cast

Add a New Cast Member Edit

Only the cast of the original (not dubbed or extended) version.

An actor has to be present in the scene (i.e. not just as a picture) for it to warrant an (uncredited) credit.

(uncredited) credits should only be added for persons with a proper cast and / or crew credit in the database already.

(uncredited) credits for recent content should not be copied from IMDb. Please try to find a trustworthy source confirming they are in the final cut of the film or episode. For old movies, IMDb can be trusted to a higher degree.

Actors appearing in a post-credits scene that aren't credited in the film credits can also be added with (uncredited).

Animation: motion capture artists should not be credited as cast members.

Famous animals are allowed (e.g. Trigger in the Roy Rogers movies).

If you are adding a new credit and notices there are multiple actors with the same name, please take the time to check which profile is the correct one.

If you find a duplicate person profile (i.e. two different profiles for the same person), please file a report to notify the moderators.

If you find incorrect credits (e.g. two actors credited in the same profile), please fix it yourself if you can. You can file a content issue report if you need our help.

Create a New Cast Member Edit

Before creating a new credit, please take the time to make sure it is not already in the database under an alternative name or spelling.

If the Save Button doesn't work, please do not click 10 times as it will create 10 duplicates. What you should do instead is refresh (F5) the page and try again if it didn't work.

Please add the IMDb ID and alternatives names/spellings to newly created people entries when they are available.

Note

Non-Roman names: The names should be romanized. Please remember to always add the name in the original script as an alternative name.

No "unknown" or "???" cast and crew credits.

Groups

The two members of a writing/directing/whatnot duo should always be credited individually.

Members of a music group should also be credited individually. For example, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards instead of the band "The Rolling Stones".

An exception is made for big music ensembles/orchestras.

Characters Edit

English TV/movies: original characters names (as they appear on-screen, in official material, etc.), no translations.

Non-English TV/movies:

  • Names have to be readable in English (i.e. romanized).
  • Descriptive names (e.g. Cop 1) and titles (e.g. Mr. Müller, Dr. Müller) should be in English.

Please use appropriate capitalization.

Ellis Boyd 'Red' Redding is the preferred format for diminutives and nicknames.

Self Appearances

"Self" is the preferred character name for self appearances (e.g. award shows, documentaries, reality shows, game shows). This change was made on July 28, 2020. Previously Himself/Herself/Themself was used. Feel free to update old credits when you encounter them.

Firstname Lastname should be used when someone plays themself in a scripted movie or TV series. For example, Pete Wentz himself did not date Peyton Sawyer, "Pete Wentz" the character did.

This is also true for animals. Daisy the dog should be credited as "Daisy" when he appears as a dog in movies and "Self" when he is in a documentary.

Professional wrestling is a staged performance. Wrestlers should be credited with their ring names (character).

For appearances, someone's role can be specified e.g. "Self - Host", "Self - Narrator (voice)", "Self - Doctor", "Self - Guitar, Drums, Keyboards".

(attributes)

(voice) should be appended to the character name for animation and voice-only narrators.

(uncredited) should be appended for cast members uncredited on screen.

(archive footage) should be appended for footage of a person that is not alive, not directly interviewed in a documentary, or when a clip from a movie is used in a different movie.

The cast of movies with multiple segments should be credited using the "Danny Jacobs (segment "The Box")" format.

(as Credited Name) should never be used. Alternative names should always be added directly on the profile.

Sort Cast Members Edit

Listing the main actors of a movie first is recommended. The main cast should not be sorted by credit order, order of appearance or in alphabetical order.

The major roles should always be credited before the small parts, no matter the celebrity status. e.g. If Danny Trejo only has one scene in a movie, he should not be credited before actors with bigger parts.

When all the main parts are listed, we recommend using the credits order instead of a random order for the remaining credits.

(uncredited) credits should always be last.
