The Movie Database Support

Would offering something similar be something tmdb would want to do? It seems very well placed to pinch the rejected user base.

Just a thought. Moderation headache might mean it's more trouble than it's worth of course

@mchris65 on computer it's top left corner bubble icon for Discussions, there is no link at the moment if you open website on mobile, you can open it only manually by adding "discuss" at the end of URL in address bar, hopefully Travis will add link on mobile website soon

Just signed up because I hope that these forums can be a new alternative place to go after IMDB forums closes! I also agree with other users, in the sense that it would be awesome if the forums were available for each individual movie/tv show. That way I'm not scrolling down on different discussions if I want to see only for that certain movie/tv show.

Update

I've just changed some things around with what used to be the "Review" panel on movies. It's been renamed to "Social" and has both reviews and discussions now.

You will not see the new panel on TV or people yet. I am still working on what that will look like.

Just do the comments like reddit; allow members to rank comments. Those that are good get upvoted and displayed. The negative garbage gets pushed to the bottom and ultimately hidden and nobody cares since nobody sees it.

no thanks reddit style karma whoring, producing mainstream garbage where everyone is affraid to speak out their own opinion, because majority will shut him down if some opinion is not popular (but still valid and written in civil way), people should be equal in forums, if you don't like garbage then ignore it, but not sure how can you decide what I consider garbage and know better than me what I want to read, for some people is Stalker garbage, for some people Transformers or Game of thrones, same go for opinions/comments...

I can very vividly imagine how would look discussion at movies like The Woodsman with reddit style karma rating, God forbid you would dare to sympathize with main character...

I don't understand the people who would rather have no forum, than a forum with trolls. Moderation is not a problem, since it is not necessary. You are free to engage in forum discussions or not. It's really not that complicated. I personally prefer forums with trolls than one's moderated by little Hitlers(and those are usually the kind of people who volunteer as forum mods).

I would simply say: make an account verification system that actually works, so people can't make multiple accounts. Add ignore feature. Nothing else is necessary.

Ignore feature would be great. That should definitely be implemented.

Ignore feature would be great.

You bet, I'll be getting to that.

I agree. A forum with a couple of trolls is much better then a forum where you can't talk about the most volatile topics, because usually those which are volatile are volatile because people find discussing them to be interesting and a forum where you can't discuss the interesting topics is not worth it. It isn't always perfect, but it is better then having some moderator jumping in because i was being concise or closing a topic because it gets the tiniest bit heated. I would personally rather have a tense conversation where no one ever comes to an agreement and ends with agree to disagree then to not be able to have the conversation at all. If there has to be moderators besides the normal moderating for illegal activity and spamming, i would rather that they would only moderate for name calling, not cussing, i don't particularly care about that even though i don't swear, but name calling and that is it. That never happens though, so i would rather no moderators at all. Anything beyond that stagnates the conversation, in my opinion, of course.

I definitely agree about the multiple accounts being a problem on imdb though. What exactly are the rules on this forum anyways?

@A to Z

Here we go already with the NAZI/Hitler references. It's getting old! It looks like most of us are newbies to this site. Being that is the case, why not leave the garbage over on IMDB for them to shoot into cyber space? We need mods for these forums. If you don't like mods, don't join. We don't need malicious trolls spewing their venom. Believe it or not it's possible to discuss/debate without vitriol, without profanity, without name calling and insults. Much more informative. And to answer...I prefer no forum over dealing with those jerks! I refer you to Time Magazine Joel Stein's article, Dated August 16, 2016: "Why We Are Losing the Internet to the Culture of Hate" "How Trolls Are Ruining the Internet" I'm sorry I don't have a direct link. Working with an Ipad!

Hi everyone, just visiting here. I'm a IMDB refugee. So far, I like this site and it seems it could rival IMDB...but I really wish the TV shows also had a place for discussion. I haven't found the discussion area on TV shows yet...am I missing it? At any rate...I like this site. Thank you.

@kspkap

If you don't like mods, don't join

I obviously already joined. Since this is still up for discussion, I'm giving my opinion(which I'm pretty sure is just as valid as yours). If the forums are oppressively moderated, I either won't last long or will look elsewhere, needless to say.

I might also add: your post is noticeably hostile for someone who doesn't like "hate".

I'm a new user. I just recently discovered this site. I'm glad you have opened up discussion boards for each individual title. IMDb was my go to site for discussions. Things won't be the same without it. Hopefully this site will become a great place for discussions.

Also, if the site becomes widely known trolls, spam and overly hateful people are inevitable. But they are easy to work around. They bugged me from time to time on IMDb, but connecting with other good film and TV fans is worth dealing with those types.

@travisbell Glad to hear you are proceeding with this. Hopefully we can get all my favorite reviewers and posters to migrate here. I will be reaching out to those i know of encouraging them to come here.
I also happen to agree with those commenting on fear of trolls. I thought IMDB was fine. Free speech. In fact, when somebody posted something like "Here it is! This is the worst movie of all time" It just encouraged me to see the movie. :D

Replying about acting ability would not be considered trolling.

You would need moderators for illegal or illicit content.
