Discuss Star Trek: Discovery

Its been 12 years since our last episode, maybe give it a break?... a chance? You lot keep jumping on the nearest band-wagon and get perfectly good shows cancelled. I enjoyed it, special effects and cast were great. Looking forward to the next episode, that's right, next episode, Star Trek has always been about individual stories and should be judged as a body of work.

How many Average People give a Sh!t about the Stock Market. Average People care about Jobs, Education and Sh!t like that. And while were at it. Were all the coal mining Jobs that Trump Promised.

These days a lot of "average working" people have an interest in the stock market even if they don't realize it. Especially because of retirement funds etc.

Your every day preferred go to curse words are not censored here. At least not yet. Sometimes you need to slip in a few here and there to make a point. Shit, asshole, motherfucker, etc.

I should add...a privilege not to be abused.

From what I've seen on other boards, that knixon tool is always arguing with everyone, and seems like he has Aspergers.

👏

I was hoping to bring in a lighter note the discussions we were getting so serious I might have mistaken this board was the political board. But being an outsider in US politics (although following politics around the world carefully)and being a child of the booming 70's I can say that people have become more conservative and egocentric over the past three decades with very to few to no left wing or liberal policies being implemented all around the world (including the US) .There was a period where there was the optimism of the falling of the Iron Curtain, when there was truely a chance to radically change everything but that very quickly turned into some cynical form of extreme capitalism (with all the consequences that caused (see '07 crash) .So don't give me any BS about left wing/liberal policies the democrats are about as left wing as Margaret Thatcher.

A large part of Obama's first term was spend on fixing the holes Bush Jr. had caused which killed any progressive plans Obama had for the US also an uncoöperative senate is not the best environment the suggest changes when you know they are going to be torpedoed by the republican majority. And as far as the stock or employment figures goes the first is reigned by the folly of the day(watch those same figures drop when Trump tweets another rant about his North Korean fellow idiot) and to claim that Trump is responsible for rising employment is also nonsense because Trump so far has not implemented any regulations or plans to promote employment and I think it is safe to assume that those figures are rising because of plans that Obama implemented previously (it takes some time for plans and policies to show effects).

On STD and other shows and movies of late I can only say that I'm getting a bit fed up with the whole PC,SJW and gender friendly stuff that is being "forced " down on us it's comes across as a gimmick and the gimmick is stale and Hollywood must stop rehashing beloved franchises and think they make it into something better because it made changes to gender or ethnicity to the main and known characters is plain stupid(e.g. the new Starbuck in re-BSG although I liked how they treated the Boomer Sharon/Athena character) and sometimes even disrespectful (even to the groups they are trying to promote)(e.g . the Leslie Jones character in GB 2016).And as Trek is concerned it always had been a champion for equal rights for all groups in society without hitting you on the head with it and it can be done properly and without the high mindedness (for example the way they treat Sulu's homosexual relationship is STB was done nicely and with respect and done in a nice Star Trekian fashion that GR would have approved of).I hope for STD's sake that they handle this thing in a similar fashion and not go the GB 2016 Paul Feig route.

At least there is something positive since the release of STD people will complain less about continuity and canon problems in ENT and it will hopefully help Trekkies appreciate the show more (just skip the intro song). laughing

Except that ignores everything that was done before by people like the HHS secretary before under Obama and was being undone by the HHS secretary for Trump. Trump doesn't even need to PROPOSE legislation, let alone have it passed, for many things to impact the economy and employment and the stock market etc in a positive way, the same as Obama torpedoed a lot of employment and economic development not by legislation but by "executive order" and having his EPA decide extra-legislatively that a company can't expand, or oil can't be drilled for, etc. and by having his HHS secretary basically add things to Obamacare that were never passed by Congress, that stifled business growth and hence employment.

Very well said. Ditto.

Well that extra EPA legislation was probably implemented to protect the citizens and the environment and if companies can't expand of that is probably because those companies are environment unfriendly and are part of the "old-industry" that needs to be build off certainly if you want to promote sustainable jobs in the new high tech environment industry that Obama was trying to promote and if the US wants to compete with the likes of China and India in the future it will have to reform it's industry if it wants to produce sustainable jobs.As for not drilling oil why risk destroying parts of the US hardly touched by human hands for the sake of some more years of oil when you are trying to promote alternative (and environmental friendly)energy production. Those oil wells won't last forever and those oil products like plastics, medicine and other products besides those used for combustion(which can be used only once and causes pollution)can often be recycled and have a larger profit margin. So it is wiser to prepare and invest in future energy resources and be economical with the oil resources you have left and use them for the high profit and recyclable products I mentioned earlier.

You mean that great environmentalist China where people wear face masks everywhere and still might drop dead from dirty air? Capitalism and such are what have enabled the great progress that has already been made here (and ignored elsewhere) and natural gas IS a clean fuel. Russia and Cuba and East Germany and other "worker's paradise" places - most recently Venezuela, it seems - were/are just as bad as China or worse. Oh and I guess you're also a believer in "peak oil" which has been disproven over and over. Sad.

@Nexus71: Let me guess. Your reply above was to a Trump enthusiast and all things wise denier? If so, you're wasting your time.

Lastly...

Let's Make This About Star Trek Discovery Again!

Sorry. I couldn't resist playing off of that other similar sounding slogan. No matter how ridiculous it was.

Well at least health care and education are free in China laughing but the Chinese are catching up quickly and have concluded that the the trend of polluted air has to change by investing heavily in environmental friendly industry and are actively promoting alternative energy resources and alternative mass transportation and China has been more capitalist than communist in past decade or two.Russia isn't communist anymore since 1991 and is ruled by a small group of very wealthy capitalists. And the air pollution only rose after the introduction of a more free market society which allowed citizens to afford an automobile (which they previously couldn't under a more state controlled system)before that most people in China rode bicycles. East -Germany doesn't exist anymore and is part of Europe's economic powerhouse Germany which is also heavily investing in environmental friendly industry and energy resources and has very strict environmental legislation. Natural gas still produces carbon dioxide since it consist of carbohydrates only the amounts of carbon dioxide produced is less than with gasoline(which also contains alkenes of which some are( suspected of being)carcinogenic). If natural gas consist of hydrogen it's another story.
