This is very much a work in progress, and I would expect the list to change substantially at some point, but I may as well post what I have as of now.

It looks like this will be the second year in a row that we will agree on the film of the year.

I didn't think 2017 was a particularly great year really. There were loads and loads of good films, but very few great ones that I'll remember in years to come. So this was a hard list to make due to having to pick from candidates of very similar quality and very few stand-out, dead certs. So far I think 2018 is a lot better.
And if you said to me a few years back that one day I'd have a Thor film in my top 10, my brains would have leaked from laughing so hard. Or maybe my brains have already leaked and that's why there is a Thor film in my top 10.
But also, IMDB seems to be spazzing out as there are truckloads of 2018 films in it's 2017 list. Or maybe there were quite a few 2017 films that were delayed here in the UK. So there may still be a lot of 2017 films I haven't seen yet.

You'll find that on Christmas day it's - 'HO, HO, HO.'

Sorry about the late reply! Nothing wrong with Thor: Ragnarok appearing on your list - I think its easily one of the better Marvel movies, with none of the overblown self-importance that mars the Avengers series. I guess its having Taika Waititi on board - it has a lightness of touch and a sense of goofy humour that is quite refreshing.
Like you said, it wasn't a great year, anyway...
