Well, I got through today's funeral service but only with the help of 3/4 of a bag of Werther's Original Caramel-filled Hard Candies. I don't do chocolate. Nicely written episode. I usually hate the vapid character of Maxie, but I have to say I haven't minded her at all this week and have actually enjoyed watching the actress. Hoping the writers decide to reshape the character and not make her such a cliche and stereotype from now on.

I live in a small suburb 20 miles north of Pittsburgh. When one of our officers died a decade ago, his funeral was attended from hundreds of officers from all over the country. This is the norm. Cops who die in the line of duty are honored by hundreds of their comrades.
Once again, you're being a curmudgeon, Auto. Nathan did deserve a beautiful funeral. As I've already said a few times, it's not about Nathan as a character or the time he spent on GH. His death represents the deaths of good cops who have given their lives in the line of duty, and in the service of others. Every soldier, emergency worker, firefighter, and police officer who gives his or her life in the service of others deserves the solutes, the flag, the bagpipes. GH in a small way acknowledged this, and I respect the writers for it, because I have a brother who is a good cop, and if he dies I will want him to be honored.

Curmudgeon? What the hell are you talking about, I have had nothing but good things to say about this episode, I even created my own thread to talk about how much I liked it. It was great, a return to the old school soap 'event', big, grand, epic, it had all the stuff that I said last week I wanted to see but assumed we'd never get. I'm hoping this is a sign of good things to come.

That's the comment I was referring to. I get your point, Nathan wasn't on GH very long, but we got to see some good acting this week and a well thought out funeral episode, and it was one of the nicer characters who died. Whether or not Nathan "deserved it"is subjective. I think he did because he was a cop who died in the line of duty. I would have liked to have seen a well done funeral for Edward as well, especially since the actor had died, but this is GH, and there isn't much consistency.

One wd think that her other 2 cop beaus- Cooper Barrett and Jesse Beaudry- would have been at least mentioned.

At the police station there's a pin-up photo of Maxie with a giant red nil sign drawn on it.
Was Cooper Barrett a cop? I thought he was a number working for Jerry. Maybe he talked of becoming a cop before he got killed.

Yeah- he was a trainee.

I don't you understand what that conversation was about at all, I was PRAISING the fact that we finally got a real funeral for the first time in more than a decade, even for a minor character like Nathan. That post, which you inaccurately described as 'curmudgeonly' was absolutely gushing with happiness about the fact that they made a major event out of the death of a comparatively minor character. Crimony! How many times do I have to say something before I am finally free of the accusation of having said the exact opposite?

I was confused when you made the comment that Nathan didn't deserve the full Lila Q treatment, but got it anyway, because all your other comments indicated you wanted a realistic, well done service. I think we can agree that the funeral episode was well done, and GH put some time and thought into it, which is nice to see once in a while.

And I thought it was clear that I meant that while Nathan didn't really deserve the kind of funeral episode that the vets get, it was great that he did because I think it may be a sign of a return to form, no more small ball funerals, they are going to be treated as an event again. Maybe next we'll finally have a real wedding episode, no more weddings with 3 guests performed by someone who 'got ordained on the Internet' 5 minutes earlier.

For budgetary reasons, they may want to start combining big event funerals and weddings. People can show up wearing gray.

All they need to do is hold weddings at the Metrocourt and wait for the armed goons to show up, then it will be time for the funeral.
I actually am worried now that they just blew their entire budget on one episode, so the rest of the year will be like the third season of Adam West's 'Batman' series where they had no sets and all the scenes took places in an empty stage with just a drawing in the background to make it look like they were somewhere.

I picture them standing in front of a moving cyclorama as the repeating background. Sort of like a live-action version of the Hanna-Barbera cartoons.

The question is ... will Dante get the same respects when he croaks?
I can picture Olivia going to Sonny to use his power to try & arrange it all.

Arrange what? His clandestine resuscitation, and being secretly kept alive at some far-off location?

Since they aren't going to kill off Dante anytime soon, the question is moot.
