Discussão Wallander

Whilst I enjoy Wallander for the most part I must say that I am disturbed by the level of violence depicted regarding birds and animals. Don't filmmakers realise that it is a case of monkey see monkey do? It is unnecessary and unoriginal. A nation is judged by the way it treats its animals and Scandinavian countries are on death row as far as I am concerned.

I'm sorry, what are you talking about? First of all, the series your posting about is a BBC production based on the Swedish original. Second, do you really think that the way the Swedish Wallander series depict violence against animals in any way mirrors reality? Are you that stupid? I think you might have a problem with separating what's real and what's not. Turn off the TV and go outside, read a newspaper instead.

Well they did use the word 'whilst', so probably.

JANA - Here we go with the personal abuse. I am not stupid. I used the word Scandinavian deliberately. I have watched the Swedish versions of Wallander (this database does not include many of them, hence my use of this version of Wallander) plus many other Scandinavian series and films, almost all of them display an unacceptable level of violence towards animals. Of course I realise that I am watching fiction, but some other viewers may well be influenced by what they see and like I said what monkey see monkey do. Why would I bother reading a newspaper - the last time I read one it described how a healthy giraffe was killed in Denmark, cut up and fed to lions - in front of school children. Pretty real, wouldn't you say?

Let's say your theory holds water... That would explain a lot actually with the amount of violent action and war movies coming out of the US. But that's your theory of course.

I am a fan of documentaries and I watch many American true crime stories and the level of crime in America is horrendous so yes, just maybe, what people see influences them. Why is there a call for ultra violent video games to be banned ? If you think about it, why would firms spend billions of pounds on advertisements if what people see doesn't influence them? I am an animal lover and I would ask you to imagine that instead of depicting a cat being butchered or swans being set on fire it was a baby. It wouldn't mirror reality, but would it be acceptable viewing? That is my point. There are so many violent movies and war movies coming out of America because film makers know that the biggest cash cows are sex and violence - they deliberately target the worst of human nature in the pursuit of profit. That's not a theory.

You don't like violence against animals but death row is ok? Am I the only one to find this extremely hypocritical?

I was speaking figuratively not literally.
