I've so far watched the first two episodes of this new series (having in decades past watched all of the exceptional Helen Mirren series that this is the prequel to) and am definitely liking it. The first episode took some warming to - as do the really fake-looking '70s wigs that certain ones of the male actors are forced to wear. But once I got to feeling onboard, I'm now all in and look forward to the remaining episodes - and hopefully there will also be at least one continuing season!

sadly, no season 2. I too am enjoying it.
In the end, Bradfield was married right? Jane didn't know?
Stephanie is a pretty good actress, not much of a cv yet. But amazing eyes.

Darn: No Season 2? It's an excellent series. Just finished watching tonight's episode (the series finale?) and was impressed.
Yep: Bradfield was married and had (I gather) two kids.

Certainly does. It's really a shame this won't be a returning/continuing series, as I think it would make for a great one.
From what I read since last night, it has been a ratings success, but was always planned as and intended to be a strictly one-of miniseries, and the producers or whomever say they're going to firmly stick to that plan, despite the popularity. Grrr.

I read that the reason there wouldn't be a second season is the author Lynda La Plante. Here are 2 blurbs from IMDb:
"Despite strong ratings (averaging 6 million viewers) and generally positive reviews, ITV have announced that the show will not be returning for a second series. It is thought that failure to reach an agreement with Lynda La Plante, the creator of the Jane Tennison character, played a significant role in the decision."
"The show is only loosely based on Lynda La Plante's novel "Tennison". La Plante originally collaborated with producers on the show but walked away from the project due to creative differences."

Such a shame to see a good new series have its plug pulled.
The way the series concludes leaves things wide open for continuation, and it feels totally like it's all set up for a Season 2 to happen. I guess that was done for "just in case" they happen to ever be able to get clearance to green-light another season.

one then can only hope "creative differences" can be smoothed over. a lot of times, that means money .

I just watched "Crooked House" with Stefanie, she was good in it too. Still get lost in those eyes.

I believe that, so far, this is the only things I've ever seen her in.
By the way, I ended up managing to catch a few bits and pieces of Ep. 1 that reran the other night and have a question, that I found myself wondering: In this prequel, when Jane has the affair with her boss, is he a character who an older version of appeared in Prime Suspect, or was he strictly a character from her early police force years?

Gen, I can't remember which one he is/was, is it the guy in this picture (see link). If so no, Bradfield died in the last episode (in the bank explosion).

Yes, that's the guy. I totally forgot that he gets killed at the end of this series. Thanks for the reminder.
