Discuss The Handmaid's Tale

... have children? Seems it might be a good idea to go get that checked out. They check out the girls obviously. Are they not checking the men?

This is a patriarchal dystopian fantasy where men are in complete control over women's lives and cannot be questioned. You're right of course, but it would ruin the myth of male fragility if they allowed simple things like male fertility tests.

Then I guess things are as bad as they are making it out. They are constantly stressing how low the birth rate is but if they were really interested in harvesting babies they wouldn't be wasting time assigning out fertile women to a guy who is shooting blanks. A religious organization being completely irrational. What a surprise, right?

In addition to maintaining their CONTROL of the society, these men also seek to maintain the facade that THEY are still fertile. They probably know they are not and what happened to June ( having the chauffeur father the child) is probably not unknown or uncommon in this society. What is important is that the offspring gets the householder's name and becomes part of the ruling autocracy!

Btw, heard the justice Dept under A.G. Barr is setting the groundwork for imposing martial law. Anyone still think THT is such a fantastic unreality?
