Discuss Star Trek: Enterprise

I've always liked this show. I've never understood why so many Trekkies seem to dislike it. I would have loved a full 7 seasons like TNG, DS9, and VOY got.

I'm with you completely, Doc. Love this show and do not get why so many hate it. Did you know that if season 4 had happened there would have been at least two eps in the mirror universe? We were going to see Empress Sato's exploits. Ah, what might have been.

I avoided this show for so long. Years after it had concluded, I decided to give it a chance. It was far better than I expected it to be! Not as good as the previous shows, however, still far better than the movie reboots. While the show does have it's issues, I definitely recommend it.

Nice to meet another fan, GT. Welcome aboard our bandwagon.

For what it's worth, I thought Manny Coto's season was great stuff, and I would have kept watching it for years at that level of quality.

Also, I thought the characters were more likable than those in Voyager. Otherwise I found both shows to be a major disappointment in vision and writing. Not a fan of Rick Berman, I think he was kept in place by Paramount because he was dedicated to treading water...he wasn't going to do anything courageous with the cash cow, but he could package it as something new. No flames, please, just my opinion.

Naw. No flaming here. Different strokes for different folks. relaxed

It's good to see other ENT fans! I loved Quantum Leap back in the day, so Scott Bakula back in a prominent sci-fi series lead was welcomed by me.

I recently ordered the blu ray boxed set from Amazon. I'm sure it's easier for ENT considering the time in which it was made, but I would love to see DS9 and VOY get the blu ray treatment as well. Maybe sales for the TOS, TNG, and ENT sets will be enough to warrant it.

I love this show. Can someone help me understand what it is that makes Enterprise worse than the previous shows? Love the plots, the special effects and the characters! Scott Bakula is a thousand times better than William Shatner. Even the song that nobody likes sounds appropriate for the leap of faith that the maiden mission of Enterprise is.

Unfortunately, I have been strugling through the first episode. I am watching it as I write this. The story has bored me already. I just cannot seem to be able to identify with any of the characters. The casting seems so wrong. The secondary characters are flat and unlikable. And ... wtf??? A shower scene with a vulcan and a human? This seems so out of place! Oh well, I can understand why it was cancelled.

The first season is the weakest, but go back and look at the first season of fan favorite, The Next Generation. It's pretty bad. Enterprise continues to get better.

Same here. I watched the first few episodes when Enterprise premiered and for whatever reason I lost interest. I watched the entire series last year on Netflix it was a lot better than I expected. I don't understand the hate or scorn that's often directed at it. I think some people (myself included, probably) were annoyed that the technology in Enterprise seemed more advanced than what we saw in ST:TOS. But what were they supposed to do? Use even more primitive special effects from the 1950s?

I am not what people consider a 'Trekkie'. I liked 'Next Generation', 'Voyager', the first 3 or 4 seasons of 'Deep Space Nine' and was hoping that 'Enterprise' would do as well. But in my opinion I wasn't a big fan. They would have a good episode and then a couple of sh*tty ones, it wasn't very consistent.

@DoctorHolland : I agree I don't get the hate either it was a lot better than Voyager and I only liked the last three seasons of DS9 (the Dominion War) but ENT is after TOS my favourite Trek show .And I liked that they pushed back the tech and technobabble stuff that seemed to be obligatory since TNG and that the show was more character driven and that we as humans don't necessarily have the moral high ground (as some episodes reflect) .And to be honest seasons 1&2 of TNG were probably the worst seasons of any Trek show(haven't seen Discovery yet).I think the problem was franchise fatigue and that a lot of the original ideas of Berman and Braga got messed up by interference from the head office who didn't know anything about Trek or science fiction for that matter. And ENT was the show that got me interested again in Trek after taking an hiatus of some 5-10 years (after seeing Insurrection in the cinema and getting bored with DS9 and VOY not living up to the potential it had). The thing that most fans don't seem to understand is that Trek has gone through several changes up to TNG and were too fond of the TNG era stuff they were not going to accept a prequel (which I thought was the smart thing to do ,going further into future would mean more tech and technobabble and more enlightened humans which would make for more high-minded morality and perfect but boring human characters).

They did have 4 seasons. Season 4 is where the "Mirror" 2-parter happened.

@Knixon: I think he meant if they were going to have seasons 5-7. But it is true that they had ideas to continue the story of empress Hoshi .And there were plans for something like in the third season story arc for the Federation-Romulan War ,they were also going to show the formation of the Federation, some revelations about T'Pol's father,Shran becoming a member of Enterprise,a prequel to the Requiem For Methuselah were the crew of ENT meet Flint and many more interesting ideas.

We might have some different concepts of what are "interesting" ideas. A lot of it sounds like just more ripping off stuff already done in TOS and maybe TNG too. As a cheap stunt trying to pick up viewers with more "Oh, so THAT'S what happened!" stuff that doesn't really hold together.

And if anything, the Empress Sato stuff would seem to make it even less likely that the TOS mirror episode could possibly happen as shown, with Kirk and Spock and the others in the same positions on the same ship, etc.

Maybe some people like Empress Sato because she wore more revealing clothes or something, but there's no point in trying to pretend like it somehow makes sense.
