Discuss Star Trek

The "revised" (ST Discovery) and "rebooted" (ST J. J. Abrams) versions of Star Trek continue to generate a lot of discussion among the fans. In the future there will be even more versions with a new look and adaptations to the then existing advanced technology and social changes in our world (the real one wink ). So would it suffice to only use the terms "alternate", "parallel" and "mirror"?

Perhaps, as in the Marvel and DC world, the term "multiverse" should be used, and Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek would be the original universe zero (Primary Universe as in STNG Q?).

Instead of trying to fit the "new" movies and series in Universe Zero, they should each occur in their own universe (#?), and in the future more (#) can be added.

And also, let's hope, that one day a new (animated?) movie or series will be made, a "true" prequel or sequel to Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek (Universe Zero).

I think it is fairly simple ; We have the original time (OT)line encompassing ENT,TOS,TAS,ST I-VI,TNG,DS9 GEN,FC,INS,NEM and VOY

and we have the Kelvin time(KT) line:ENT ,ST09,STID,STB

Whether STD belongs to either is something of a debate among Trekkies where the producers claim it is part of the OT and the consensus among Trekkies is that it is part of the KT,or whether this series takes place in some mirror universe.

@Nexus71 wink I personally think that Discovery to be more in the Kelvin timeline than the TOS one. And you know what, I also think that the Star Trek Mirror Universe plotlines are starting to get really old. NO MORE, for the love of Diety!

I would gladly see a movie dealing with the continuing sage of Empress Hoshi though wink

I think Linda Park is too old now. Enterprise ended 13 years ago, and I wouldn't believe she would survive for that long as emperor/empress.

@Nexus71 spy Somehow that doesn't surprise me.

Really ? Why ? laughing

I must go with Nex on this, MK. The two part Enterprise episode "In A Mirror Darkly" is one of the best of the series. It touches on two TOS eps; "The Tholian Web" and "Mirror, Mirror". The Mirror Universe was only used in 8 episodes in the entire franchise. One in TOS, five in DS9 and two in Enterprise.

and I want to see more of T'Pol's belly button. sunglasses

Those are exactly the reasons why it - and all the other Mirror episodes, really - stank. They were pretending that very different situations for 100 or more years, would somehow still end up with Kirk in command, Spock as first officer, etc etc. Even after 100+ years of promotion by assassination which would inevitably lead to some people being killed before they had the children - and grandchildren, etc - that needed to exist 100+ years later for everything to somehow be "the same, but different..."

It was crap. The Enterprise episodes were the worst offenders since they had them getting a ship with 100-year advanced technology yet somehow for the TOS episode events 100+ years later, they had supposedly made no changes/improvements on the Defiant ship that they'd taken 100 years earlier? Total nonsense. At least DS9 was more fun and less serious about theirs.

Call them "fun" if you like, maybe just because you like "Evil Hoshi" in skimpy outfits. But don't call them "good."

@Nexus71 wink But of course you do.

The instrument has yet to be invented that can measure how little I regard your opinion, Knixon. The Tholians had not had Defiant for 100 years. It went 1oo years INTO THE PAST in the Mirror Universe. You clearly get a thrill out of being the nay-sayer in any thread you deem worthy of your contribution. Get bent.

As Dr. Buckaroo Banzi would say, "Don't be mean. We don't have to be mean". (Boy, I can just imagine the responses I'm going to get to this, Robert Lansing help me) :-)

You should know by now, MK, that I am only mean when provoked.

My fave Buckaroo quote is "No matter where you go, there you are."

@Jetfire59 grin I should hope that it's everyone's favorite Buckaroo Banzi quote.
