So what would you suggest for this show, if I try to add via my raspberry pi/Kodi it's missing 4 episodes. Should there be a 6 episode entry and also a 10 (long way down extended) added to the database?

No, such duplicate entries are not allowed. But when I thought about your question, I looked into the Contribution Bible for the tv section, and there's a section about Specials here:

And there's a line: "Some DVD bonus content is allowed."

So, if I'm not completely mistaken, you can create a special season 0 and add all 4 episodes from the DVD to this special season. And when it's done, you can make an episode group for the DVD release - and that should work with Kodi somehow.

However, I'm not sure that's how it should be?!? We have to wait for one of the tv expert moderators to confirm or deny what I just wrote ...

Not sure if that would work. Kodi uses a scraper to look for a title that matches something in your database. If I create a special with 4 episodes it'll then be 6 short. The best solution I came up with was "long way down extended" as a title so people using Kodi would need to name and scrape that over the original release. People with the TV release would pull the 6 episodes and people with the disc rip would need to scrape the extended 10 episode release.

Your idea of a special would be fine if episode 7-10 were just extras. But they aren't. Episode 10 is them finishing the journey where that's episode 6 on the TV release.

If we can't add it then it'll just need to not be avail via Kodi. I guess.

Fingers crossed the extended release of the show is a solution that can work.

As Janar said, TMDb does not have a solution for alternative versions and we're very unlikely to have one anytime soon. Have you checked with Kodi?
