A taboo office romance is revealed. At a brainstorming session, Peggy proves to be more than a secretary, opening up new opportunities for her at Sterling Cooper. Meanwhile, Rachel faces her conflicted feelings for Don after he seeks out her advice on a new campaign.

Roger joins Don for an evening of dinner and drinking, during which Roger's behavior leads to a rift in their friendship. Though Don accepts his apology, there are further consequences for Roger. Pete faces trouble at home as he continues to struggle with the demands of his new marriage.

Don is tormented as pieces of his secretive past begin to haunt him. Peggy's new success at work, and resulting boost in confidence, threaten her office relationship. Salvatore Romano gets a little too close with a client.

A rival ad agency courts Don, involving Betty in their attempt to lure him from Sterling Cooper. As the presidential campaign heats up, the agency looks for new ways to counter the latest Kennedy ads. Tempers flare over Peggy.

Don loses an account. Roger, stuck in the city for Labor Day weekend, attempts to cheer him up. Meanwhile, Joan has a night out on the town with her roommate.

Peggy is given a difficult assignment. Roger's work problems provide new opportunities for Don, and Pete grows more frustrated. Betty finds a new outlet for her growing dissatisfaction.

On election night, the Sterling Cooper staff pulls a rowdy all-nighter while watching the returns. Pete's ambitions cause him to directly challenge Don. Don remembers his past as a soldier in the Korean War.

As Thanksgiving approaches, Don's work responsibilities interfere with his domestic life. Peggy is given a new opportunity, provoking the ire of some of her colleagues. Betty makes a startling discovery.

Pauls Party in seinem Apartment in New Jersey hat derweil an seinem Arbeitsplatz unerwartete Konsequenzen...

Für den Werbespot eines renommierten Kunden hat die Agentur Sterling Cooper einen bekannten Komiker engagiert. Der taucht jedoch nicht nur sturzbetrunken am Filmset auf, sondern beleidigt auch noch den Inhaber der auftraggebenden Firma. Um seinen aufgebrachten Kunden gnädig zu stimmen, muss sich Don Draper schnellstens etwas einfallen lassen. Als Harry erfährt, dass er schlechter bezahlt wird als seine Kollegen, will er unbedingt seine Vorgesetzten beeindrucken - aber ob das klappt?

In Peggys Kirchengemeinde gibt es einen neuen Priester - der leider ein großes Interesse für den nicht immer keuschen und gottesfürchtigen Lebenswandel seines "Schäfchens" hegt. Betty ärgert sich derweil darüber, dass Don sich nicht um die Kindererziehung kümmert. Doch ihr Ehemann sieht keinen Grund, das zu ändern, zumal er im Job durch die bevorstehende Präsentation für American Airlines stark eingespannt ist...

Pete und seine Frau suchen einen Arzt auf, um endlich herauszufinden, warum sie - trotz zahlreicher Versuche - einfach nicht schwanger wird. Joan hat es sich derweil zur Aufgabe gemacht, eine neue Sekretärin für Don zu finden, und Debbie denkt an die Zeit zurück, als sie gerade ihr Kind zur Welt gebracht hat...

Peggy fühlt sich ausgeschlossen, weil ihre Kollegen nach der Arbeit bei einem informellen Treffen über neuen Ideen für einen wichtigen Kunden gebrütet haben - und natürlich war Peggy zu diesem "Männerabend" nicht eingeladen. Duck sorgt für einigen Trubel in der Agentur, als seine Ex-Frau seine Kinder samt Hund früher als erwartet zurückbringt...

Don buys a new car; Pete, Harry and Ken strategize to attract new business; Don's secretary makes a grave error; Cooper has a new piece of art in his office.

Peggy wird von Vater Gill gebeten, bei einer bevorstehenden Kirchenveranstaltung zu helfen. Ob der Priester dabei Hintergedanken verfolgt? Don und Duck umwerben derweil eine ausländische Bierbrauerei, die im US-Markt Fuß fassen will, und Harry droht in Arbeit zu ersticken. Da kommt ihm eine ungewöhnliche Idee...

Bei einem wichtigen Pitch steht Freddy Rumsan sichtlich unter Alkoholeinfluss und blamiert sein gesamtes Team - womit er sich eine fristlose Kündigung einhandelt. Während Don seine Loyalität für einen alten Freund unter Beweis stellt, erweist sich Sarah Beth als willkommene Verbündete für Betty.

Betty besucht ihren kranken Vater, während Paul von seiner Freundin Sheila deutlich auf seine Bürgerpflichten hingewiesen wird. Unterdessen versuchen Pete und Trudy, ein Kind zu adoptieren - doch dieses Vorhaben wird von Petes Mutter nach allen Regeln der Kunst sabotiert...

Don reist geschäftlich nach Las Vegas, wo er einige interessante neue Bekanntschaften macht. Peggy lässt sich unterdessen auf eine Büroromanze ein, während Duck über die Zukunft von Sterling Cooper nachgrübelt...

Don trifft eine alte Bekannte wieder: Anna, die Frau des verstorbenen Don Draper, dessen Identität er im Krieg angenommen hatte. Petes private Probleme machen sich mittlerweile auch im Job bemerkbar - und das bleibt nicht ohne Konsequenzen...

März 1963: Sterling Cooper ist an eine britische Firma verkauft worden. Pete darf sich über eine Beförderung zum Leiter der Buchhaltung freuen - bis er erfährt, dass Ken die gleiche Stelle angeboten wurde. Sal begleitet Don auf eine Geschäftsreise nach Baltimore. Die beiden nutzen die Gelegenheit, fern der Heimat amouröse Kontakte zu knüpfen...

Bei Sterling Cooper rauchen die Köpfe, gilt es doch, zündende Werbeideen für Pepsis neue zuckerfreie Limonade Patio zu entwickeln. Und schon gibt es einen neuen lukrativen Auftrag: Für den Neubau der Sportarena Madison Square Garden müsste der altehrwürdige Bahnhof Pennsylvania Station abgerissen werden - und dafür sollen Don und seine Kollegen die passende Kampagne ersinnen. Unterdessen zieht Bettys Vater Gene ins Haus der Drapers ein...

Paul, Smitty und Peggy versuchen, Müdigkeit und Langeweile während ihrer nächtlichen Überstunden mit einem pflanzlichen Muntermacher zu bekämpfen - Marihuana! Während Joan und Greg eine stilvolle Dinnerparty veranstalten, lässt es Roger bei seiner eigenen Feier zum Kentucky Derby richtig knallen. Das bleibt nicht ohne Folgen, denn auf Rogers Party machen sowohl Don als auch Betty interessante neue Bekanntschaften...

Don darf sich über einen neuen Kunden freuen, der zwar mit Geld nur so um sich wirft - aber auch für Verstimmungen mit einem alten Freund von Cooper sorgen könnte. Die britischen Eigentümer von Sterling Cooper statten der New Yorker Agentur einen Besuch ab - mit einer Überraschung für Pryce im Gepäck: Er soll zu einer indischen Agenturtochter abkommandiert werden. Pryce? Ersatzmann Ken gibt kurz darauf seinen äußerst bizarren Einstand in der Agentur. Unterdessen steht auch Joans Abschied aus der Agentur an. Die launige Party zu ihrem Ausstand wird jedoch dadurch getrübt, dass Joan erfahren muss, dass ihr Ehemann mit einem De-facto-Berufsverbot belegt wurde und nicht mehr als Chirurg arbeiten kann...

Dons ehrgeiziges Ziel, den Werbeetat der Hilton-Hotels zu ergattern, erleidet einen vorläufigen Rückschlag: Der Inhaber stellt nämlich eine nicht ganz unproblematische Bedingung dafür. Cooper greift unterdessen zum Mittel der Erpressung und zwingt Don, einen Dreijahresvertrag zu unterschreiben. Peggy hat derweil ein Gespräch mit Duck und erklärt ihm, dass sie keineswegs beabsichtige, die Agentur zu wechseln. Dennoch hat ihr Gespräch unvorhergesehene Konsequenzen...

August 1963: Don nimmt Betty mit auf eine Geschäftsreise, die sie ins Hilton in Rom führt. Der Ausflug in die altehrwürdige Metropole am Tiber belebt auch ihre eingeschlafene Beziehung wieder - doch leider ist nach der Rückkehr bald alles wieder beim Alten. Pete nutzt unterdessen seine Zeit als Strohwitwer nach allen Regeln der Kunst aus - und verführt das deutsche Au-pair-Mädchen der Nachbarn...

Sterling Coopers wichtigster Kunde, Lucky Strike, verlangt von der Agentur, ihren Art Director Sal Romano zu entlassen. Wie sich herausstellt, hatte der schwule Sal die sexuellen Avancen eines hochrangigen Lucky-Strike-Managers zurückgewiesen. Don bleibt nichts anderes übrig, als dem Kundenwunsch zu entsprechen. Privat lässt er es sich gut gehen und beginnt eine Affäre mit Sallys ehemaliger Lehrerin...

Betty entdeckt Dons gut versteckte Sammlung alter Fotos, die deutlich zeigen, dass er ein recht interessantes Vorleben hatte - von dem Betty bisher nichts ahnte. Don gerät unterdessen in die Bredouille, als der Bruder seiner neuen Geliebten auftaucht und die Affäre mit Sally gehörig verkompliziert. Derweil erfährt Pryce, dass Sterling Cooper erneut den Besitzer wechseln wird...

Nachdem Betty herausgefunden hat, dass Don nicht der ist, für den er sich ausgibt, konfrontiert sie ihren Mann mit diesem Wissen und drängt darauf, dass Don ihr endlich die Wahrheit über seine Identität verrät. Derweil trifft Roger eine ehemalige Geliebte, die die Affäre mit ihm gerne reaktivieren würde. Wird Roger bei diesem Angebot schwach?

Rogers Tochter befürchtet, dass die Nachricht über die Ermordung von Präsident John F. Kennedy die Stimmung auf ihrer Hochzeit ruinieren könnte. Trüb ist auch die Stimmung bei den Drapers: Betty eröffnet Don, dass sie ihre gemeinsame Ehe beenden will. Macht sie tatsächlich Ernst?

Noch bevor Sterling Cooper erneut den Besitzer wechselt, erarbeiten Roger, Bert, Don und Lane einen Plan zur Gründung einer neuen Agentur, in der sie alle gleichberechtigte Partner sein werden. Auch Peggy, Joan, Pete und Harry wollen sie mit ins Boot holen. Derweil machen Betty und Don ihre Scheidung offiziell. Allerdings gedenkt Don keineswegs, Betty das Feld kampflos zu überlassen...
