Assistance de TMDB

Please allow me to give an example. Venom (2018) for shows Matt Tolmach Productions as the Production Company, except Matt Tolmach was a producer for the movie and he just so happens to be involved via his own company called Matt Tolmach Productions. He is contractor for hire. Avi Arad and Amy Pascal were also employed as producers alongside Matt Tolmach for the movie in question and as they too are contractors for hire they were contracted in via their companies.

None of the those three were the main production company. The was the Sony Pictures division Columbia. Columbia is the Production Company, if another company was to get credit then Marvel Studio's would have had the next biggest role. Matt Tolmach, Avi Arad and Amy Pascal played very minor roles in this movie but they get prominence on this site for the Venom (2018) entry (Columbia and Marvel are completely absent), and then any service that uses the TMDB API has the incorrect information. For Example, Plex states that Matt Tolmach Productions was the Studio responsible for the Venom (2018).

So I will grant this was just one movie, but the issue is endemic here. I have in excess of 1,000 movies in my Plex library and here are some figures....

28 movies are attributed to 20th Century Fox, 20th Century Fox Animations, 20th Century Animation (typo?) and 20th Century Studios 36 are attributed to Warner Animation Group, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Bros. Pictures 51 attributed to Sony Pictures group (Tristar, Columbia, Sony Pictures Animation etc)

The thing is the vast majority of my collection were produced by the production companies owned by the big conglomerates, such as the productions companies I listed above. I don't have many movies at all produced by small independents and not even the small movies that tied a distribution deal with a conglomerate. However the list of studios in services that use the TMDB API is excess of 600, this is for my movie collection of about 1,000 which means more than half are attributed to the wrong company.

Given that the three people who I mentioned above did play a minor role in producing the movie Venom (2018) then I can understand them being included, but should the main production company be included also and if so the primary production company? Otherwise the information hosted here is giving the impression that 'Weying Galaxy Entertainment' is responsible for Ghost In The Shell (2017) when their part in the production was so minor his company didn't even feature in the opening credits. His company was barely featured in the closing credits but three services that utilise your API give all credit to him.

I assume you've read this part of the TMDb Bible.

Am I right ?

Is there a reason why most movies have the Production Company info omit the main Production Company?
For Example, Plex states that Matt Tolmach Productions was the Studio responsible for the Venom (2018).

Some Scraper programs and some Media Center Addons
have an option that can be enabled to use only one production company.
Make sure your Plex has this option enabled.

And usually the first in line is chosen.
And the queue is determined by the order in which the companies were added to the movie.
It's not by size, or importance, or alphabetical.
In this case Matt Tolmach Productions (US) is first in line.

Thank you for your response. Given that other services may (most likely) have coded their applications to only show one entry, would it be against any rules here if I was to re-order the production companies so that the major production company takes a precedence over the supporting production companies? I haven't seen anything saying this shouldn't be done but I don't think there a policy about it, I currently work in a place where "no policy = no change, get authorisation" so thought I would ask you guys your opinion on it before doing anything.

I think you can do this reordering without any problems.
But I am not very knowledgeable on this particular topic.
So let's wait 3 or 4 days for comments from other Moderators.
If no one says anything, go ahead.
