Suporte do The Movie Database

Hello, I'd like some clarification on what is considered to be an appropriate poster, particularly when an 'official' poster doesn't exist. In this case it's for short animated works where one was never made.

A little while back I created a number of custom posters, which featured some text, which I believe resulted in a few of them being deleted due to having custom text, which is against image guidelines. Most of them remained though, even when I tried to make a post containing a list of all of the remaining ones to help with removal. The mods just deleted that post and didn't delete any of the custom posters, so I'm getting indirect mixed messages based on these actions. Anyway, if I can get more concrete feedback, that would be great.

This title contains an example of both my custom with text and a simple screenshot version: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/717236-the-big-swing/images/posters

Are either of these acceptable?

Since there hasn't been any feedback, I'll just use screenshot type 'posters' in these cases. They look less polished, but probably less likely to be deleted. If mods don't have any comments, feel free to close this thread.

The expectation on this site is that you should get a reply back from the mods within 2 months.

From what I read from the contribution bible:

"Stripped down versions of official posters as well as custom posters made from promo pictures and/or logos are allowed."

I would assume uploading custom posters using screenshots are not allowed. (but I could be wrong)

Having said that...it doesnt sound very good that your post asking about removal of your images got deleted (presumably with no explanation)...

This is good to know. Thanks. :)

The main reason why I was going about it this way is because I use letterboxd, which uses tmdb's api. Letterboxd users often add screenshots here for films that don't have offical posters. It adds an additional visual element to the many lists/watchlists/activityfeeds/etc. This is particularly true for short films, student films, video art, and other less-commercial works often lacking this type of supplementary/promotional material. So I guess I'm really just curious on what admin thoughts are on this type of thing.

It might simply have gotten flagged for spam due to the number of links in the post, who knows?

and fyi, this information can also be found here in the contribution bible where it says:

"Be patient! We receive a high volume of reports. Getting a reply may take a few weeks or more. You can bump your request after two months."

Since there aren't any other posters available, I'm fine with these. The only thing to watch out for with custom images like this is that if an actual poster were to get added, it's likely at that time, these unofficial images would be deleted. But I don't mind having these up.

@WardenclyffeTower said: This image also does not look good at full size. You uploaded a version without text which is actually larger but doesn't look bad (the image in the poster with text has many jpeg artifacts, typically caused by increasing an image in size which is something you shouldn't do). You may be doing something when creating the text posters to decrease the image quality.

This makes a lot more sense. For this example, it looks like I didn't use the high quality version of the source image by mistake. I imagine this may have happened for some of the others. Thanks for the feedback!

EDIT: Yeah, I used the medium quality images I had for all of the ones I uploaded.... I'll upload HQ ones in a bit and report each of the older ones for deletion as I go.
