Supporto The Movie Database

Hi, Sorry, if found more topics, but can´t find concrete answers.
What are all good sizes for posters?
I know that between 500 x 750 and 2000 x 3000
But some has "X" as not optional. And "w92", "w154", "w185", "w342", "w500", "w780" doesn´t tell me nothing. I will need specific sizes like I know that 1000x1500 is OK.
So what are other OK sizes from approved 500x700 till 2000x3000?

Thanks

The good sizes for what?
For upload or download?
They are different rules.
See here
https://developers.themoviedb.org/3/configuration/get-api-configuration

To upload

The sizes are as follows

Upload Supported Image Sizes (in pixels)

| API name | Item | Min Res | Max Res | Aspect Ratio |
| :------: | :-------------: | :--------: | :---------: | :----------: |
| poster | Poster | 500 x 750 | 2000 x 3000 | 1 x 1.5 |
| backdrop | Fanart | 1280 x 720 | 3840 x 2160 | 16 x 9 (1.77)|
| still | TV Show Episode | 1280 x 720 | 3840 x 2160 | 16 x 9 (1.77)|
| profile | Cast/Crew | 300 x 450 | 2000 x 3000 | 1 x 1.5 |

For download

Supported sizes are as follows

Download Supported Image Sizes (For use with HTML, App, programming etc ...)

| poster | backdrop | still | profile | logo |
| :------: | :------: | :------: | :------: | :------: |
| -------- | -------- | -------- | w45 | w45 |
| w92 | -------- | w92 | -------- | w92 |
| w154 | -------- | -------- | -------- | w154 |
| w185 | -------- | w185 | w185 | w185 |
| -------- | w300 | w300 | -------- | w300 |
| w342 | -------- | -------- | -------- | -------- |
| w500 | -------- | -------- | -------- | w500 |
| -------- | -------- | -------- | h632 | -------- |
| w780 | w780 | -------- | -------- | -------- |
| -------- | w1280 | -------- | -------- | -------- |
| original | original | original | original | original |

Original Size is the size of the uploaded image.
It can be between Min Res (Minimum Resolution) and Max Res (Maximum Resolution).

For upload posters from different languages. I know how to resize them little bit. But I don´t know what those "W" means, or how to check them. For example, if you check movie Parasite and Korean posters. 973x1459 is OK, but 2000x2850 is wrong; Vietnam posters 1320x1980 is OK, but 1120x1596 si wrong. So which sizes for postres are OK to upload.

I know how to resize them little bit. But I don´t know what those "W" means, or how to check them.

These Ws refer to image sizes that can be requested or downloaded to compose an HTML page on a website or an App.
Examples
https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/lFx2i2pg1BoaD7grcpGDyHM1eML.jpg
https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/w154/lFx2i2pg1BoaD7grcpGDyHM1eML.jpg
So, if your question is about image sizes that you can add or upload to the TMDb Database, then forget about these Ws, they are not about uploading.
These measures are of interest to HTML programmers.
You will not upload a w92 or w154 image or any similar size.

For example, if you check movie Parasite and Korean posters. 973x1459 is OK, but 2000x2850 is wrong; Vietnam posters 1320x1980 is OK, but 1120x1596 si wrong.
So which sizes for postres are OK to upload.

Yes, there are some countries that have a different Poster Aspect Ratio standard than the US standard.
I remember France. But there are others.
Two other Aspect Ratio for Poster are accepted by TMDb.
1 x 1.33 and 1 x 1.67 are allowed.
But it is not ideal. And it is not ideal because all the HTML programming of the TMDb website is made considering Posters with the Aspect Ratio 1 x 1.5.
See the rules on this page
https://www.themoviedb.org/bible/image/59f7582c9251416e7100005f
It explains not only the Aspect Ratio problem but also talks about the quality, the cut, the crop of the images and much more.

OK, I was confused when I just checked other topics regarding image size. For example I have poster 1920x2560 - if i change it for 1x1,5 so to 1920x2880 it makes faces looks thinner which doesn´t look so good. If I copy image in a 1x1,5 canvas and croop it, also don´t help much, since faces are on sides of image and it cut them too much. So I will have to figure it out somehow. But now I understand that for uploading ideal 1x1,5 and if it can´t be helped also 1x1,33 or 1x1,67. Thanks.

Never, NEVER, stretch or compress an image.
We are only going to have very fat or very thin, distorted people.
If with crop we will lose text or cut a face then we need to find another solution.
If you need to get taller, with a higher height, and the top part is a solid color, then it is better to increase the height and fill with the solid color.

EDIT
Example
https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/mAYZsRDWqoDaydO44ntRqvi5uQn.jpg
https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/oMFSkQmp369Tsm6FFifpU64CPLR.jpg

But when there isn´t such big difference in height?
For example:
This is crooped: https://ibb.co/TmVdHJn
this is resized only with few cm https://ibb.co/C7PJQds

and this modified in photoshop: https://ibb.co/bB5YWDW

It's ok

this is resized only with few cm https://ibb.co/C7PJQds

It is compressed, distorted.

and this modified in photoshop: https://ibb.co/bB5YWDW

This is the best solution.

OK, so I will try to use third option if possible (not all images can be make bigger in photoshop - or can but by professional, not me :) ) and if not, I will try to croop. Can I delete pictures that I have uploaded? Some can be remake, som not since few are very old.

Considering the Photoshop example, I think you can solve it well in most cases.
And yes, you can delete the examples.
Good luck. :-)

https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/9919-how-to-lose-a-guy-in-10-days/images/posters Here for example I will delete this slovak image that I have uploaded in not optimal size. How can I do it?

Thank you for help and advices.

Good example. It shouldn't be difficult to increase the height with yellow.
Only moderators can delete an image.
When necessary, just ask here on the forum, specifying the image so that we can identify:
what language, who uploaded it, what size etc ...
In this case I assume it is this:
https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/sQDMu63bY6FjtSirerjvWaDG15W.jpg
I'll delete it.

They are changed with proper sizes.

Thank you.
