Suporte do The Movie Database

Bug report:

If original movie title is not English and the movie does not have translation to its original language, title in movie page is shown in English. Correct original language title is shown in browser tab title i.e. HTML title-tag.

Here is an example: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/155399

Movies original Finnish title is Sampo. Movie does not have Finnish translation, but Finnish it correctly marked as original title language. If user uses any other laguage than any of the 5 translated ones, English title is shown on page and Finnish title is shown correctly in HTML title-tag.

Original title will be shown if Finnish translation is created. I know that, because I have created several Finnish translations in simiral cases.

I guess that is intended, but can't be sure. I read something about it before. Because if it was a Japanese movie, or other eastern script, no one could read it.

That can not be intended. Even when I have selected Finnish as my site language, English title is shown. As said, its "Original Movie Language" is correctly set as Finnish.

You can set English as your "Fallback Langugage" if you want to see English titles instead of original titles if titles are not translated in your primary site language.

That might be because the language default setting maybe has not to do with the actual movie/database entry itself, but with the site translation. But I could be wrong.

I just checked this TV entry I added yesterday and if I set my globe language to Finnish, no backup, the original Dutch title does appear, and the synopsis is English. That's odd too. I would expect there to be at least consistency that both would match in language.

So the behaviour in Series and Movies seems to be different. I wonder what Travis intended!

That TV-show has Dutch title AND it has Dutch translation. So it is not directly comparable to my example, but English synopsis on series page seems like a bug.

Now I tested setting my "Fallback Langugage" to English and the title is still "Brugklas". Changing "Fallback Langugage" to German and there is no synopsis at all (so it did not fall back to Duch or English after not finding Finnish or German synopsis).

There seems to be quite a few problems here...

No, I meant I tested it with the Finish language as my default language. so it is comparable, it has no Finish translation, but it does show the original title (in your case it would be a finish title too, but that shouldn't be of importance. You want the original title, not the finish title) Strange things happening indeed!

I did undestand that. I also tested how Brugklas entry worked. It's different because it's series and it has transation in original title language. My example (Sampo / The Day the Earth Froze) does not have translation in its original title language (that's why I gave that one as an example and did not create translation yet).

Quoting myself: "Original title will be shown if Finnish translation is created":

  • Original title language not English AND NO translation in original title language -> English title shown
  • Original title language not English AND translation in original title language -> Original language title shown

Having or not having translation in original title language should have no effect on what title is shown. Movie title works correctly in HTML title-tag (and so it is different what is in body-part of HTML).

I just tested that title works correctly in search also: https://www.themoviedb.org/search?query=sampo
