The Movie Database Support

Hi guys, is there any plans to support the new Netflix Recut of Arrested Development? Netflix has this marked as the 'Season 4' now, and their original 16-episode run (the new one is 22) is listed under 'Trailers & More).

it is already deleted, so guess not

TVDB allowed the "extended edition" recut of S1 of Psycho Pass as specials https://www.thetvdb.com/series/psycho-pass/seasons/0 for example but that one actually had additional content in it. If this one includes actually something new then you should consider doing the same here imho. Otherwise no, no - where would you otherwise set the limit.

We don't support the Extended Edition of Psycho pass either. Just a different version of the same content. It's too little "new" content to be considered new.

That was the one I meant indeed. I just checked the specials again ( to see if they hadn't been added), and just removed it, as it only contained the movie, and movies aren't supposed to be there anymore.

There is (albeit, not very much) new, never before seen footage. There is a completely different narration. It tells the story in an entirely different way.

Netflix (who, again, released this in the first place) has completely hid the "original" version out of sight. For all intents and purposes, they have replaced the original Season 4 with this Remix.

This isn't like "oh let's move episode 5 to episode 2 and push 2, 3, 4 back an episode, because it might flow better for audiences" like they do for a ton of animated shows when they release them on BluRay/DVD. This is "let's completely redo this, and tell the story the way we told the first three seasons, because our original attempt at telling this story was horrible to watch and ruined most of the parts that were supposed to be funny."

I don't think it makes sense to put your foot down and enforce rules that are meant to prevent duplicate content for an entirely different reason. Massive recuts like this -- ones that actually take effort, and new content being delivered, and being the official method of presentation by the original content provider -- don't happen often. Worrying about setting a precedent shouldn't take priority over allowing the content to be presented in the way the content provider clearly intends to present it, which is with this new 22-episode season. The next time something similar happens, we can have another discussion about it and listen to the pros & cons... but the fact that you didn't do it for Psycho Pass doesn't mean we shouldn't do it here...

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the board - first off, thanks to everyone who contributes to TMDb, it's truly a great resource!

I wanted to share a few thoughts that might propel this topic forward:

**A. **The rules that are in place are good, but there should be some flexibility - perhaps similar to how Wikipedia treats "notability" for articles. Others have already argued that the season 4 remix goes well beyond simple airing order re-shuffles.

*B. **That said, you should consider *why there are rules, and whom TMDb is for. There are countless users like myself who use TMDb as the source to fill their media center with data (Kodi in my case), and if the source doesn't provide usable episode data to them, then it has failed its mission, to put it bluntly. In the case of the season 4 remix, public demand for this data is definitely huge, which adds another point to the argument that TMDb should, in some form or other, acknowledge it.

**C. **The way I see it there are four alternatives:

  • 1a. Remove the old season 4 and replace it. That doesn't seem right because there will be people who will, in their media collections, retain the old cut, and would then be served faulty information.
  • 1b. Follow Netflix's official behaviour and move the old episodes to season 0. But that will also mess up existing collections for many users.
  • 2. Add a new series called "Arrested Development Remix". But that's an even worse idea and would adversely affect so many users' databases.
  • 3. Add the remix as a separate season, e.g. "04r", so that episode codes could be "S04rE01" and so forth.
  • 4. Add the remixed episodes to the existing season 4, with a suffix to the episode number, e.g. "S04E01r" and so forth.

Options 3 and 4 depend on the data model "under the hood", specifically if season and episode "numbers" can be treated as alphanumerical - both at TMDb and in the various media center softwares relying on it.

I hope this adds something of value to the discussion. And I hope season 5 will return in AD's old glory! :-)

Another "remix" Starhunter Redux

Hey all, I'm way late to the party. It seems the conversation just trailed off at the certain point. Does that imply the verdict is to exclude the season 4 remix?

Since I am in migration phase, I would also welcome the continuation of this topic. The tvdb finally decided to make an exception here (iirc it is sorted as specials now) and it would be nice if tmdb allowed the same (order the remix as special somehow)

3 years later and no decision? Can these just get added as extras in season 0?

I agree

I don't see how it is a problem since the "episodes groups" feature.
Both numerotations can exists simultaneously, in dedicated groups.

Wasn't the Futurama "movie-season" split in episodes at some point ?
It feels like it's a very similar recut problem.

With episode groups wouldn't you still need to add the re-mixed versions of season 4 some where? Can we please just list them as specials.

It's 2023 and these episodes came out in 2018. Have we not made a decision yet?

Who is it that has to make a decision? Why is everything still like this? At least if they were included in the special episodes. I saw that from March 14th the series is probably removed from Netflix https://www.netflix.com/it/title/70140358

Is there any update to this? Can we please get this figured out? I think it would be terrible to cram the remixed season 4 into specials or make it a fully separate show entity. Let's figure out the "4.5" thing and make this happen. This remix was done in 2018. It's been over five years now. I think you all do a terrific job here, but seriously, it's been five years, and you cannot even watch the "original" season 4 on Netflix anymore.
