The Movie Database support

Is this a manual setting for each movie/show or is there some algorithm you're using?

A good example is on the big bang theory page: https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/1418-the-big-bang-theory

radial-gradient(circle at 20% 50%, rgba(76.86%, 6.27%, 41.96%, 0.98) 0%, rgba(43.92%, 3.92%, 56.86%, 0.88) 100%)

The two colors are clearly from the poster image, but can you give some insight into how this works?

Hey Josh,

There's a 2 tier system for colours here. First is an automated colour detection system which works relatively good but is not always great. The second is an override that I can apply which I have done for some of the more popular content like The Big Bang Theory, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Game of Thrones, etc...

To generate the automatic way, I use a method that brings the image down to a set number of colours and then store those. If you're familiar with ImageMagick, you can use quantize or posterize to do this. I've seen a lot of good articles that touches on all of this as well.
