Hi Travis,
Wondered whether we could add the following jobs :
Carpenter
Casting Associate
Hair Department Head
Thx
Mod edit:
You can request missing crew jobs in this topic. The new crew jobs have to be English and free of spelling mistakes. Please specify in which of the following departments each new job should be created: Directing, Writing, Editing, Camera, Production, Art, Costume & Make-Up, Visual Effects, Sound, Lighting, or Crew.
Kindly try to avoid making duplicates job requests (search the last few pages), or requesting crew jobs that are already added to TMDb.

A few of those jobs aren't coming up for me when I edit entries. I see them listed above but they are still not working. Namely:
Camera: Assistant Camera
Director: Second Unit Director
Crew: Production Assistant
Also I have these requests to add to the database:
Camera: Third Assistant Camera
Stunts: Master at Arms
Visual Effects: Rotoscoping Artist
Visual Effects: Visual Effects Lineup
Visual Effects: Effects Camera

I think there's a misunderstanding: The list above contains only suggestions/requests that have to be added by Travis at some point in the future!
That's why those first 3 jobs you mention (Assistant Camera, Second Unit Director, Production Assistant) don't come up when you edit entries - they are still suggestions like the rest of the jobs in this list and not available right now. We have to wait until Travis finds the time to add all of them - hopefully soon.
If you need a current, full list of all available job titles right now, take a look at the first post of the following thread:

Thanks for putting them here!
When nobody disagrees with your suggestions during the next days, I'm going to add them to the list of suggestions above.

I know, that's annoying! It's the same with "Stills Photographer" vs. "Still Photographer" - that always throws me off a bit ...
However, instead of adding those similar job titles multiple times, Travis made a different suggestion in August:
"Something I can do to the jobs list is add alternative names. And at this point I can probably even add a little tool for mods to add them. No one really talked about this being a problem until only very recently 😉 So, if that helps when you are talking about jobs in the sense of the ones that can go by multiple names, choose a primary name and feel free to keep track of alts too. We can use those."
Meaning, instead of adding similar job titles and blow up the number of labels even more, it's a plan to group those similar job titles around a primary one with alternatives (that's what the other thread is for, actually). How and when this will work/be implemented in the future - technically -, are questions that only Travis can answer.
I always use the label "editor" for this one. Older films, before the tv era, often display a "film editor" in the opening credits - and I always assumed that's synonymous and I can use it. I think it should be added as an alternative in the other thread, too.
This one was already suggested and is part of the current request list (within the first section, ART).

the following crew jobs:
CAMERA:
CREW:
LIGHTING:
VISUAL EFFECTS:
I apparently forgot two of Viktor's suggestions back in September - sorry about that ...

It's fine really, I know you are helping out a lot and we can't remember everything.

Hey @janar72,
Are the items you have listed here all new jobs, or are some of them jobs we already have but with a different department? Doing bulk creation is easy, but if some of those jobs are updates then I need to do those separately.

As long as I remember, all jobs in this list are new suggestions. The one's that should be moved into a different department and/or renamed are either in this thread inbetween, or in the other thread with the masterlist -> @banana_girl used those as markers in the list.
I stopped adding new labels to this list months ago, because it's way too much variety in official credits, especially of tv shows, to use this method of hard coded job labels in the database.

Ok, then I'll get those added.
Yes, there's a massive variety that's for sure. For now it's the only system we got. At some point in the future it will have to get revisited but until then I don't have much alternatives to offer.

Cool!
I know. It would have to be a completely different approach that also allows to add credits of second units or partial credits for parts of movies/shows -> the current system is far too limited to allow any of this. But to change the system, it needs lots of time -> I understand.
One other tiny detail I remember: The following existing labels are all expressions in plural - they should all be changed to singular expressions.
Compositors (CREW)
Sequence Leads (CREW)
Studio Teachers (CREW)
Digital Compositors (VISUAL EFFECTS)

I went to add some new listings but the job titles are still not showing up for me, namely "Assistant Camera". Not 1st, 2nd, or 3rd... but many films I've worked on have simply "Assistant Camera" to cover a large portion of the camera crew.

It bothers me alphabetically. For me it would be better to have a workflow-based ordering.
At least from the departments.
There is a traditional division of the work of a film into 3 parts:
For example, Writing is last. It should be the first. If this ordering is done automatically, perhaps the only solution is to number the departments.
I think some departments have many functions. Can be divided.
Also 2 classic movie departments could be created. Gaffer and Grip.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaffer_(filmmaking)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grip_(job)
And split Costume & Make-Up.
As they say in English, My two cents.

There's no plans to refactor the system right now, it's too much work and I don't have the time for a generally low-ish priority item like this when much more important things need to get done.
With regards to ordering though, it's just alphabetical right now. I'll think about alternative options.

The new jobs were just added. It almost doubled our total, there are now 930 jobs. I also fixed those 4 plural jobs too. Good catch.
