The Movie Database Support

Hi Travis,

Wondered whether we could add the following jobs :

Carpenter

Casting Associate

Hair Department Head

Thx

Mod edit:

You can request missing crew jobs in this topic. The new crew jobs have to be English and free of spelling mistakes. Please specify in which of the following departments each new job should be created: Directing, Writing, Editing, Camera, Production, Art, Costume & Make-Up, Visual Effects, Sound, Lighting, or Crew.

Kindly try to avoid making duplicates job requests (search the last few pages), or requesting crew jobs that are already added to TMDb.

This person was credited as Art Designer for The Prosecutor the Defender the Father and His Son. I do not know if that is the same as Art Director, but I've added him with that job for now at least.

Could Art Designer be added?

Hi marr

I think the job category for this crew member is Production Design not Art Design.....

<><><>

I have added a few more to my last list

Maybe, on the poster it says Art Design. Could be Production Design? All those different crew job names.. haha.

Torq00 is correct. Checking IMDb can be helpful as well. 60 credits as Production designer: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0693550/

I have also noticed quite a few people adding Set Designer instead of Production Design, but a set designer is a lower level position and should not be used for the main production designer.

Key Makeup Artist (there is already a Key Hair Stylist, but Key Makeup is missing)

in Costumes & Makeup department

Hi Marr

Key Makeup Artist is listed in my second list...(may need to copy it here is getting a tad long )

I have also added Continuity to it.

Torq00, can you put together a list with all the latest unfixed jobs and then I can add the ones I have. I think it's soon time to ping Travis so we can get these added!

Hi Lineker..as you have requested.....Just yours to add

I had a little trouble with some of the categories sp1ti requested ( Episode Director, In-Between Animation, Finish Animation, In-Between Check) These seem specific to Japanese Animated films.

All right. I have added my bunch to the list and also made a few small changes. Continuity is the old credit for Script Supervisor and since we have that one in Directing I thought that made most sense. Take a look and see if there are any changes to be made before we ping Travis.

Thanks for the corrections..looks good to me

Even though many of these credits are covered by union contracts, not every job gets named and not every production is a union signatory. Then you get to international productions and suddenly there is a whole new mess of job titles.

Trying to forecast every job title seems like poor design

Trying to forecast every job title seems like poor design

So you would rather have us add incorrect credits? Adding assistants as regulars since no assistant credits exist. Or is it the process that is the problem? That we didn't ask the union about what jobs to add?

When adding hundreds of thousands of credits you get a sense of what jobs are needed to add. In the beginning not so many, the basic ones. After a while you need more. And then you reach a point where you see holes everywhere. The process may be unorthodox, but so far it has worked.

Just out of curiosity, how would you have solved this problem?

I was too harsh calling it "poor design". Without rethinking the whole database schema, and I am no database expert wouldn't keyword-value pairs be more suited for this? I leave it to people more skilled than me to determine the most efficient way of doing this.

15 years ago the DIT role didn't exist, now people can't even agree what DIT stands for.

For the record I don't want incorrect credits added, nor should assistants be upgraded. We should not ask unions what job titles to add. But this list will grow forever and I am guessing the Pareto Principal will apply. 20% of the job titles will cover 80% of the names listed.

And I was too defensive. I'm not an expert on the database issue at hand, just looking at it from a practical point of view. All good.

Got some more:
