Directed by Arata Oshima, son of rebel filmmaker Nagisa Oshima, who had praised Sono's early work before his passing, this documentary gives insight into the man, the poet, the painter, the scriptwriter, the husband and the boy who will eventually grow up to be the Sion Sono. Lineage, history and the past meeting the present are themes in this film in which Oshima connects the dots in Sono's creative life by taking the camera to the site of his upbringing and following the production of his most recent film The Whispering Star.

Fast-forward five years and things havent quite gone as the boys might have planned: Albert is now married to Tania and they are living in suburbia, both working in insurance and also trying (unsuccessfully) to have a baby; Sefa and Leilani are still together and now have two kids although despite Sefas proposal, theyre still not married. And while Sefas business is falling apart, Leilani seems to be living life to the full; Stanley is now a trainee Deacon in the Future Church; Michael has moved to Australia but the boys dont hear from him often; and Bolo has thrown in his job with Sefa and taken up work with Sione, Michaels younger brother.

Vi.sion is the product of an encounter between an expanding ballet troupe and an abandoned school with a marvelous theater, which was to be demolished to make way for a parking lot. It is the home of a place, imbued with memories of a rich and proud past, by the footsteps of a young troop. The time is getting confused. Blue Like Me travels with Siona to Mumbai, revisiting the Bene Israel Jews portrayed in her recent Fulbright project. Siona Benjamin is a daughter of Israel, born of India, and a citizen of the world-and that world is blue.

This work repeats fragmented, distorted, and faded elements over and over again, while drifting towards abstract degradations and looped simulations, circling back on itself endlessly until exhaustion, insisting on saying what it already said in the first instance (much like this very sentence). Words, sounds, and textures merge and disintegrate into noise without an apparent pattern but very present nonetheless. The subject stretches, compresses, and expands, once again showing that the possibilities of technological replication can generate subpar prints, leaving a bad impression both on paper and in our minds.
