Discuss Henry Cavill

Henry is contractually obligated to play Superman one more time.

Do you want Superman solo or in a team (i.e., MOS 2 or JL 2) and why?

JW got something right? Whatever. rolling_eyes

Yes, fans like the reborn SM in JL. That gives HC something to bring to the bargaining table. That should make WB more open to HC’s demands. Yet, no official announcement has been made. HC’s IMDB has JL2 and MOS2 as announced and not as rumored. But how reliable is that information? I’m so tired of WB’s state of indecision. They don't strike while the iron is hot.

WB will remain in state of indecision for a long while.

While The Conjuring executive producer Walter Hamada was recently promoted to oversee DC Films at the studio as the division itself is currently in the process of restructuring, the Department of Justice’s lawsuit against AT&T for their $85 billion bid to acquire Time Warner leaves the division’s fate in question. According to the insider, Time Warner would likely be split up and sold piece by piece as Warner Bros., HBO, and Turner, leaving the future of DC Films in question should the DOJ succeed in their effort to block the merger.

Something to lighten up the mood.

The studio has always planned on fleshing out Justice League members Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, and Green Lantern who was absent from the team in the feature film before they spin-off to introduce secondary characters such as Batgirl, Nightwing, Deathstroke, and Lobo,

OMFG! Where is Cyborg? He is a member of JL. GL is not a member yet.

You’re right. This is one of the biggest antitrust cases to hit Washington. Read here.

Exactly! The idiots working for WB are afraid of a black superhero.

Anna, I can't open your antitrust link.

Shazam‘s plot summary. Link to article

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

A superhero film doesn't have to be dark and moody or have too many jokes in it. But this sounds too kid-friendly for me.

The costume looks like something for a kid show.

Shazam isn't a JL member. The plan was to flesh out JL members.

He seems to be connected to the DCEU.

Although it's taking place in Philly, New Line says that the movie is firmly in the DC universe and an eagle-eyed social media user spotted a small connection to the DCEU in one of the posters on the set. There's an ad for a boxing match and it has a sponsor of Ace Chemicals, which most DC fans know as the place where the Joker came to be.

Is ZL training for this role? He doesn't look like Hulk to me.

WB chooses the darkest stories. SM dying and now this Flashpoint thing.

Worse, while The Flash was the comedy relief in JL, Ezra Miller’s solo outing now appears to be an ensemble piece based on the bleak, alternate-timeline storyline of DC Comics’ Flashpoint event. In the comics version, Bruce Wayne is dead, Superman is being held by the government, and the world is being destroyed via a war between Wonder Woman and Aquaman and their home nations. Basically, the storyline can’t be too fun since it needs to be taken seriously, and despite numerous development issues, Warner Bros. is rumored to be intent on bringing it to life.

Flashpoint can be used as a JL 2 or to reboot the DCEU. Link to article

Without presuming that Flashpoint will be an exact adaptation of the comic arc (no more than Captain America: Civil War was a blow-by-blow adaptation of that Mark Millar 2006 comic book story), the story offers two interesting opportunities. First, if they so choose, the powers that be can make Flashpoint into not just a Flash movie but a glorified Justice League 2 with appearances by any superhero (Wonder Woman, Superman, Aquaman, etc.) they want. Again, while Civil War was Captain America 3 it was also a huge MCU mythology episode that doubled as an Avengers drama. And the time travel story also presents another opportunity for another soft reboot for the troubled DC Films franchise.

You can argue that DC Films has itself been a series of soft reboots. Man of Steel’s mixed reaction led to Batman v Superman. Dawn of Justice’s poor reaction led to an overly campy (and heavily re-edited) Suicide Squad. The reaction to both led to a Justice League movie that was half Zack Snyder mythology and half Joss Whedon character comedy, with neither party coming off terribly well. By the end, we had gone from a Man of Steel that was “disappointing” because it earned mixed-negative reviews and earned $668 million worldwide in June of 2013 to a Justice League that earned lousy reviews and made just $655m worldwide in Nov. of 2017.

Flashpoint already looks like JL 2. WW and Cyborg are in it. It wouldn't surprise me if BM is in it too. As always, SM will be left out because he's too powerful.
