Generally the idea when moving something from a game to the screen is to give the audience something that they wouldn't get in the game, being story, and more detail.
We got a story but we didn't get the fighting and fatalities that the game presented.
I know that a lot of kids like mortal kombat and therefore the target audience is under 18, but many movies that are R do well on the bigscreen and then do VERY well on home video.
Robocop was an R movie that was huge on both (I think some parents probably thought the robotic cop made it a kids movie and bought it by mistake.)
To me the most disappointing part of this is Johnny Cage and Sonya's fighting. Both didn't seem like good fighters. The scorpion, Lui Kaing and Tsung were all great fighters.
Goro was actually robotics and I thought it looked so fake that it must have been clay animation. I think they gave him too much personality. I wanted a monster that was terrifying.
I'd like to see a remake with the R rating. Not a full on gore movie, but the concept of what good game to screen movies are, story and detail.
