Have you read Camus? The Stranger has similar themes...
Was there an end frame of him lying immobile on the wolf? Anyway, whether he is found in time or not to survive is almost irrelevant...

He lives. There was a brief scene at the end of the credits that showed a wolf laying in the snow breathing its last few breaths.
