I know they want to inform the viewer of what is wrong with Norman. Instead of dropping hints throughout, they kept it a surprise until Nation's sister finds Mrs. Bates, but it drones on and on. It really ruins the pace, takes away the shock value and mystery. I think revealing Norman as his mother worked well enough and the explanation wasn't needed

I feel you, but at the same time, the detail that the psychiatrist provided was appreciated.

I like that the doctor explains about Norman, his true past and outlining how he believes it connects to his behavior in the present (although it's not exactly realistic but I appreciate the effort), however he was a bit long-winded. I re-watched Psycho recently and by the time he was done, it was like the viewer had been hit over the head with it. He really does drone on, it would've been better had it been more concise.

Yeah it does go on but back then I don't think average Joe's knowledge on serial killers and psychos was as advanced as it is today.

The monologue ending's never detracted any from the film, for me. It's a little awkward seeming, but still feels like it "works".

I had no problem with the explanation. But that’s just me.
