Discuss The Man Who Planted Trees

I saw this multiple times, several years ago, was each time thoroughly entranced and impressed, and have never forgotten it. This film is truly magical (and won the Best Animated Short Film Oscar in 1988).

Here's the entire film (best print thereof I'm able to find online).

Thank you for sharing this, genplant.

I've just finished watching it, for the first time. A great little film with a huge message.

Oh, that our present time could be simpler. I have a strongly-held belief that technology is robbing us of contemplation, of genuine interaction (and understanding) of our fellow humans, and of nature, and is destroying our creative impulse. The life of the man portrayed in this film should in many ways serve as an example for us to emulate.

Less is often more in both speech and art; needless distraction takes our minds from what is truly important.

Thank you again, genplant, for sharing this small yet rich work of art.

All my pleasure, north.

It's a shame that Short Subject films tend to slip off the radar and wind up generally forgotten after a decade or so. Back when I saw this multiple times was during the late '80s (and perhaps also early '90s) when it aired now and then on PBS. PBS remains a rare much-needed bastion on American t.v. for the arts, culture, and an array of other fine programming.

I thoroughly agree with everything you stated. It's a shame there's not more works along the lines of this one, particularly in our current times that have so little gentleness, quietness, kindness, and beauty. Everything about this special film's message is meaningful and timeless, while so simple and pure.

Lovely animation, narration, and other audio. This production wonderfully allows the mind and spirit to soar.
