The movie probably would've worked equally well (or badly) if they had cut them out all together and, for example, made that chinese guy a part of the Rock's SWAT team in the beginning and then made out he was one of his old friends and he now has to save the chinese guy out of the tower.

Speaking of product placement, am I the only one who got a hankering for a sweet refreshing delicious Pepsi everytime they showed that round logo on top the skyscraper.
