Discuss Of Human Bondage

That great old Kim Carnes song always comes immediately to my mind during Bette Davis' two iconically memorable "eyes" scenes in this movie. No one's ever "done" eyes better than Bette does in this movie!

Do you mean the "Champagne scene" and the "Wipe my mouth scene"?

The first "eyes" scene is the one that occurs in reality, when Mildred is at the table with Philip, sipping champagne. The second "eyes" scene is the fantasy one, when romanticizing Philip, alone in his room, conjures up a sweet and idealized virginal sort of image of Mildred in his mind.

She's definitely sipping champagne in the first mentioned eyes scene, though I'm presently unable to recall whether she's doing the same in the second scene, or if, in that one, she's just shown standing and looking lovely. She's I think sipping champagne both times though.

Here's a GIF of Bette famously doing her eyes thing: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/14/1d/8c/141d8c12279332eeb22dab59138acb7c.jpg

I remember the Champagne scene clearly:

Sipping champagne

The second scene as you mentioned, could be:

In his room studying

In class taking his exam

Neither of those final two links, above, look to be what I think of as this movie's 2nd "eyes" scene.

I'll have to check via my DVD, to see if I can spot (at larger t.v. viewing size and higher resolution picture quality) the 2nd place I mean. I had thought it's during the elegant dream scene. However when I just checked that part via the YT video, nothing about Bette's eyes is specially featured.

I'm probably thinking about a moment during approximately the 29-30 minutes point in the movie, as, glancing through the YT video, that's when Bette is shown in significant closeup for a minute or so.
