Not sure about this. It left me wanting to re-watch David Lynch's effort.
I saw that probably 2/3 years ago now and was amazed at how much better it was than I'd remembered. Ok, it still had it's problems but stylistically it had a real epic feel to it.
Conversely in this new trailer - especially looking at that part with the massing CGI army - it looks like prequel Star Wars or something, pretty generic.

If your a fan of Lynch's Dune there's a special edition blu-ray coming soon from Arrow Films.

I strongly recommend the Spicediver edit, it restores most if not all of the deleted scenes, and re-edits the pacing and structure of the film to make it MUCH closer to the book. It also feels like a far more complete film.
There is talk of Wonder Woman getting pushed back, and if that happens Dune will probably get pushed back to early 2021. So we might have to wait even longer. On a side note, does anyone know what the reshoots were about? I mean I know it dosent always mean its a bad thing, but I was just wondering.

The production has been kept pretty tightly under wraps, but every production undergoes re-shoots, it's a pretty normal thing in any film production.

Also, RE: Massing Army, it was a major part of the book, especially in the first half. Both the miniseries and the original adaptation seriously streamlined it, but pretty much from the moment the Atreides arrive on Arrakis, they are building up their forces and defenses in preparation for an assault from the Harkonnen, which is a big part of the reason they want to enlist the aid of the Fremen. It's not a "down the line" thing as the other adaptations make it seem, but an actual, immediate risk. There is even a subplot involving Leto sending a troop on a suicide mission to destroy a big part of the Barons reserve stock of spice on Geidi Prime before the major betrayal plot kicks in. Then of course there is the use of bombardment from artillery, and even an improvised thermonuclear explosion all within the first half of the story. While some of the sequences involving the Harkonnen army were most certainly not in that part of the book, it's not exactly out of place.
Thanks. It wasn't so much the army per se I was questioning, just that it looked an awful lot - due to the scale / CGI use like the clone army specifically at the end of Attack of the Clones.
I'm quite interested in reading these books now. Don't know why but they passed me by when I was a kid even although I read loads of Arthur C Clarke, Asimov (loved the Foundation series), Philip K Dick, etc. I really should have read them!
Annnnnnnd it happened.
WW Pushed
So I guess we will be getting Dune in 2021 now.
I don't know all the ins & outs of the movie biz, so why would moving WW change when Dune is released?
A lesser known adaptation of a book up against a superhero movie... I'll leave you to figure that out.
Lesser known where? The jungles of New Guinea? Honestly who needs another 'superhero' movie? Why can't WW release in October like it was planned? And Dune in December?

I'd imagine most kids today would never have heard of Dune. Them being a huge part of today's cinema audience. And Dune is already a massively risky prospect in today's climate even without the current pandemic. Just look at how much money the last Denis Villeneuve sci-fi lost. Blade Runner 2049 was critically loved and generally adored by the more ponderous of cinema goers. But it flopped big time. I imagine Dune to be of a very similar ilk to that film and though I'm really looking forward to it and want it to do well I really fear that it is cursed to a similar fate. And as I hear Dune is to be split into two films, we may never get to see part 2. Going up against WW would be cinematic suicide.

Looking forward to this, although I don't agree with some of the casting choices

I'm looking forward to it too but just not sure when we'll get to see it.
There's no release date on the trailer so it appears WB don't know when we'll get to see it either!

Supposedly December 18th.
