Sometimes it's just fun to watch these type of films and wait for Korean cliche scenes hehe especially the drama joy

For more worthy Korean films, something like Old Boy I guess

Haven't seen it, but I've heard that A Tale of Two Sisters is also a good Korean horror film.

Re: A Tale of Two Sisters, I happen to have watched the western remake too, and enjoyed it. 7/10. I mean, anything starring Emily Browning is also a good movie. Probably. Except for Sucker Punch. Among others. Is the original much better?

Like you, I've only seen the American remake, but I've heard that the original is really good. It has a 7.3 on IMDb and an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Korean version of Tale of 2 Sisters is more creepy for me...something about the look. The remake is okay too.

I haven't seen remake of Old Boy, was not really keen or curious to see it sweat_smile

it was enjoyable popcorn flick, though I am also surprised that this would motivate someone into korean cinematography and not something like Oldboy or Memories of murder, Brotherhood of war was quite touching; I have still Wailing in my watchlist looking into it

what I don't like about their movies is they drag too much, seem like it's mandatory for korean movie to have at least 2 hours even with simplest plot, grr

I Saw the Devil........that movie really messed me up after watching it. Like a Korean version of Seven on Steroids

As a zombie fan I really enjoyed this movie. I get tired of Hollywood taking movies from another country and remaking them. Always have to improve them, can't leave them alone. I hope they leave this one alone

Hmm, re: Old Boy, I actually watched the western remake everyone seemed to hate and enjoyed it. 8/10. I mean, any movie starring any of the Olsen girls is a good movie. Is the original much better?

Yes.

Yes.

Must be a typo as on IMDb 7.3 is kind of a failure

Eh?

This? THIS? THIS!? SERIOUSLY!????

[...] this retarded zombie-melodrama mashup [...]

It accomplishes what it's trying to do pretty well; it's a 7/10. What really grates is that this is rated higher than The Wailing, which is a much better Korean horror film in all respects and came out at about the same time.

The Man From Knowhere is a very good korean action thriller. I also liked the the Korean version of the hong kong film "a better tomorrow". It's not as good as the original Hong Kong film but entertaining on it's own merits.

South Korea is a treasure trove of EXCELLENT movies. Old Boy is fantastic and while I enjoyed the remake, it pales in comparison to the original. Some other great ones:

Lady Vengeance

Sympathy For Mister Vengeance

Breathless

The Beauty Inside

J.S.A.: Joint Security Area

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring

I Saw The Devil

Moss

3-Iron

A Dirty Carnival

Miracle in Cell No. 7

Wish

Confession of Murder

Public Enemy

Thirst

The Good the Bad the Weird

The Yellow Sea

Mother

The Man from Nowhere

The Host

Memories Of Murder

Spider Forest

Bloody Reunion

Howling

Infernal Affairs Trilogy

Friend

Hansel and Gretel

The Isle

Masquerade

Flu

No Mercy

New World

Bedevilled

Three... Extremes

A Bittersweet Life

No Tears for the Dead

Handphone

Epitaph

Etc., etc., etc.

You're welcome ;)

That's a nice list. While we're listing great Korean movies I must recommend 'Save the Green Planet'. It's absolutely mental. Go watch it. Quick!
