What would happen if those people did not go on the tour?

I got the impression from what Joan Collins's character said something made her drive by and go on the tour. However, what do you think would have happened if they resisted the temptation? Do you think the devil or crypt keeper would come after them in their homes or somewhere else?

I have a feeling it would be one of those weird things (like the film The Legacy (1979) where they would continue on the country road, only to come back upon the crypt. One of them would get upset, while another would want to investigate. They leave again, only to come back upon the crypt! Oh no! So now the curious one gets his/her way, and they all go in.
