The father seemed selfish and had no boundries the way he would embarrass his daughters by coming out in drag when they were on dates. He/she was also fortunate that the wife was paying for everything. If she had made the transition at a young age she likely would have had to work her butt off in low paying jobs, getting discriminated against, or perhaps working the streets as a prostitute.
I do believe there are parts they left out for various reasons. Like they didn't say why she waited that long to transition when she claimed she told the wife after their first date. I have a feeling it was a fetish for her with wearing dresses and being an incorrigible masturbater while fantasizing how she looks as a woman. Some do that, but rarely talk about it.
Something else that was brought up elsewhere is it seems like it's mostly white male-to-females like Trisha who transitions later in life. You rarely hear of black transgenders doing that. Someone stated that it's most likely because white males are reluctant to give up their male privilege so they hold out until later in life. With blacks - as well as those who are naturally feminine - they probably won't be treated any worse by transitioning to a female than staying in the male role, only better, so they throw cautious to the wind and go for it.
