For some inexplicable reason noted jazz pianist and multi- Grammy award winner Herbie Hancock plays the defence minister. His other acting credits are rather sparse.
2017 is the year of musicians taking bizarre film role. Paul McCartney turned up in the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie! John Lennon still refuses to see it.

Another bit of offbeat Luc Besson casting: Tiny Lister, who played the President of the Federated States, was at one time a professional wrestler.

I'm a bit ashamed to say that I do remember him from when I used to watch wrestling when I was younger. I think he went by the name Zeus. I also remember him from also being cast as the president in The Fifth Element.

I've seen him in quite a few things over the years. Little Nicky comes to mind. He had a fairly large part in that movie.

LOL your mouth to god's ear. I really thought that Ruby Rhod was an insane, over-the-top character but one I greatly enjoyed. I wouldn't have minded that choice one bit. Poor Herbie could barely get his lines out.

In fact Besson also cast trip-hop pioneer Tricky as Oldman's assistant in the 5th Element.
