Discuss Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

For some inexplicable reason noted jazz pianist and multi- Grammy award winner Herbie Hancock plays the defence minister. His other acting credits are rather sparse.

2017 is the year of musicians taking bizarre film role. Paul McCartney turned up in the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie! John Lennon still refuses to see it. stuck_out_tongue

not funny

@tlm550 : I agree with you about the John Lennon line. Rather tasteless.

Now here's something I thought I'd never be saying. Rhianna was one of the best things in the movie.

Vavoom she was Maria and since the topic of dead musicians was raised I though the opening sequence accompanied by David Bowie's Space Oddity was perfect especially the transition from the early NASA and Soviet footage with only mono sound until t you get that to that first spacey musical interlude and the image goes to widescreen and you get full blown (in my case at home dolby 5.1 ) but in the cinema full blown dolby atmos sound that was bloody amazing.

@Nexus71 :😊 The opening sequence with the David Bowie song playing was one of my favorite parts of the movie.

In the cinema it was quite breathtaking hearing the full multichannel sound and the screen becoming wide(in 3D) was like heavenly one of the few moment where the 3D ,widescreen image, and sound were enhancing each other plus the overall 3D experience of this is probably one of the best 3D experiences I had in most other movies it doesn't enhance experience that much and only make the whole 3D distracting. and the alien world after the opening was quite breathtaking in 3D, the interdimensional market was also a feast for the eye and full of action and funny (it was actually quite funny when the tourists get instruction about the signs that the guide says the "U" stands for Humans made me thought about the way The Ferengi pronounce Human lol)

I want to meet him before he dies.

Who? Herbie Hancock ? I saw him in 1991 with Wayne Shorter,Omar Hakim and Stanley Clarke at North Sea Jazz
