Discuss Blade Runner 2049

I haven't watched this since last year but for some reason, that scene popped in my head where K is returning to the police station and they ask him a barrage of strange questions. I can't remember for the life of me why on Earth was the purpose of this.

"A blood black nothingness began to spin. Began to spin. Let's move on to system. System. Feel that in your body. The system. What does it feel like to be part of the system.

In other words, what does it feel like to be a SLAVE as part of the SYSTEM (same question that the REPLICANT Roy Batty asked DECKARD in the first BR film). And the answer that ROY gives him is it's to LIVE in FEAR (the FEAR of being HUNTED).

returning to the police station and they ask him a barrage of strange questions. I can't remember for the life of me why on Earth was the purpose of this.

Clip of the First BASELINE STRESS TEST we see K given can be seen here:

Blade Runner 2049: Post-Traumatic Baseline Test

Remember the EYE TEST that DECKARD gave RACHEL, and how the other guy also gave it to the other REPLICANT who shoots him when he asked him about his MOTHER???

The purpose of giving it to RACHEL was to figure out if she was HUMAN or not.

But the purpose of giving it to the other REPLICANT character was to judge his REACTION to STRESS ( which is also the same reason why they give the test to K).

They're testing K's STRESS levels, and when he FAILS to pass it, his boss also tells him she'll give him a 48 HOUR head start before the others hunt him down to KILL HIM for not passing it.

What they ask him to repeat back to them the first time we see him tested (after he kills the other REPLICANT who grew WORMS) were also passages that come from the PALE FIRE BOOK that we see JOI holding up to read before K reminds her she didn't like that book very much.

And the passages that K repeats from the book are also full of lots of other SYMBOLIC STUFF that ties in with the rest of the story (such as K having a TWIN which is symbolized by the CELLS being INTERWINED):

QUOTE from the PALE FIRE book:

Cells interlinked within cells interlinked Within one STEM. And dreadfully distinct Against the dark, a tall white fountain played.

Then we also see K discover from the records how one of the TWINS had died (the GIRL TWIN).

And that's also the reason why one suspects ANA is also a HOLOGRAPHIC IMAGE as well (like JOI).

Which also explains the reason why she's confined to living inside of her BUBBLE area.

Like FRANK SINATRA was also confined to his existence inside of the other BUBBLE on top of the JUKE BOX that K plays in VEGAS.

And we also discover from reading the LINK in the LINK to the QUOTE from the PALE FIRE BOOK how PHILIP K DICK who wrote DO ANDROIDS DREAM of ELECTRIC SHEEP also had a TWIN SISTER who died at birth and how he was also buried with her in her grave when he died.

But understanding what some of the REFERENCES to things mean in the STORY also requires one to study info one finds inside of *LINKS that are INTERTWINED and LINKED to still other LINKS.

In other words, the TWIN issue is also the reason why one SUSPECTS K really is the SON of DECKARD, and ANA is his TWIN (who died and was then RECREATED again in HOLOGRAPHIC form ... the same way as we also saw the DUPLICATE COPY of another RACHEL created … before LUV shot it in the head ... after DECKARD said the other RACHEL he knew had GREEN EYES).

And since ANA's also an EXPERT on how to IMPLANT MEMORIES, that's also the reason why one SUSPECTS the NEXT SEQUEL will also be about how ANA DOWNLOADS the MEMORIES of K, as he lays there on the STEPS and DIES, and then RESURRECTS him again by placing them inside of another DUPLICATE K body.

But if DECKARD was HUMAN, then DUPLICATE K would also only have a REPLICANT BODY instead of having a HYBRID (HALF HUMAN/HALF REPLICANT) one.

But he'd also still have the MEMORIES of a HALF HUMAN/ HALF REPLICANT being.

Thus also leaving us with a DUPLICATE COPY of K who still had CELLS INTERLINKED within CELLS INTERLINKED

the same way as RACHEL'S MEMORIES were also those of TYRELL'S HUMAN NIECE.

Which may also help to explain the reason why RACHEL was able to get pregnant and REPRODUCE a child the same way as HUMANS do???

Because her BRAIN had also been IMPLANTED with the MEMORIES of another HUMAN ... which once again reminds one of the passage from the PALE FIRE BOOK that we hear K QUOTE ... when they give him the STRESS TEST ... to see if he PASSES it or not ... AFTER he's KILLED one of his OWN KIND … where he also finds the TREE where RACHEL was buried … which also had the DATE of his BIRTH carved into it.

And the LITTLE WOODEN HORSE also had the same date CARVED into the BOTTOM of it as well.

As you may recall, we also saw several other WOODEN CARVINGS of other ANIMALS that DECKARD had made which were there on DISPLAY in VEGAS.

are like

Hinting at how we'll most likely also see K RESURRECTED AGAIN ... if they ever make another SEQUEL for us ... or manage to continue on with the story in some other way (such as if they get HBO or SHO to produce ongoing episodes of it).

Which is also why one still keeps one's fingers crossed that we'll get to see some more of it.

Because one definitely also WANTS SOME MORE!!!

Here's still another LINK that explains the reason for the TEST K is given:

The overall point of both films is that the line between human and replicant is nebulous to say the least. Much of the symbolism surrounds the famous line, “more human than human”. Replicants are constantly tested to see if they are human.'

The Voigt-Kampf test in the first film test an emotional response. The counterintuitive part is it’s tests for an emotional response. This is intrinsically what makes us human. It’s not the analytical mind, although a balance is needed. One of my favorite scenes in the first film is Leon’s test in the first film. He kills the tester when the question comes to his mother. “Let me tell you about my mother…” as he blows the guy away. Isn’t that utterly human? Uncontrollable emotion but, it is something that humans are protective of their mothers.

The test K goes through is similar, but it plays more on stress. The test requires a quick response to an ever speeding up series of statements. I couldn’t find a better link but, stress is something that will override your cognitive response.

the K test is checking If he is an obedient replicant. An obedient replicant acts “less human than human”. It won’t react to those human cues under stress. In a similar, case as Voight/Kampf, the new test used human proclivities to check replicants.

the films want you to examine what we claim to be our most human traits.

In other words, K was also ACTING HUMAN when he FAILS the TEST and his BOSS gives him the 48 HOURS HEAD START to RUN AWAY.

A replicant who can be provoked might kill someone they shouldn’t, or fail to kill someone they should, and so on. They demonstrate enough individuality to identify themselves a public risk.

And his ACTING HUMAN also made him a RISK to OTHER HUMANS.

IRONIC isn't it how HUMANS FEAR other BEINGS who ACT EXACTLY the same way as they do???

To put it still another way, K's social status was that of a SLAVE.

And as soon as he behaves like an INDEPENDENT INDIVIDUAL who has a MIND of his own, and he refused to OBEY whatever ORDERS he's given, then it's also time to get another BLADE RUNNER to HUNT him down and dispose of him (the same way as K also disposed of other REPLICANTS for a living).

Thus the HUNTER (the BLADE RUNNER) also becomes the PREY.

Clip of the TEST QUESTIONS being asked without K's presence:

"A blood black nothingness began to spin.

The Baseline Test is an examination designed to measure any emotional deviance by Nexus-9 Replicant models (and perhaps previous models). To be "Off Baseline" would be considered a failure of such test.

K" is subjected to the Baseline Test twice, failing the examination the second time.

The poem that begins the test and is quoted word-by-word throughout is from Vladimir Nabokov's novel Pale Fire.
