I knew when Tarkin appeared that he had to be a digital recreation - a really good one - because I knew the actor Peter Cushing was dead. I've heard that plenty of people weren't aware of that and thought he was the real deal.
I've heard of the uncanny valley, but I think RO got Tarkin as close to realistic-looking as I've ever seen.
SPOILERS Princess Leia at the end looked a little more noticeably digital, but I saw this film the day of her death, so it was a poignant moment for me anyway.

I noticed it, but I was also looking for it.

CG Tarkin and Leia both creeped me out. Just the idea of doing that seems dehumanizing. I think I watched it the day she died but didn't know while I was in the movie.

I was ok with Tarkin, although if he had kept to the shadows or had his back turned it would of been perfect. Princess Leia was awful, just looked fake and plastic, the movie shoulda ended with Vader, that was a great scene.

Wasn't looking for it but noticed it straight away. It was the mouth movement I think, it just seemed a bit off. Still exceptionally well done though

I thought both Tarkin and Leia were incredibly well done. Full marks to the special effects team.

It was done pretty good, but I always notice it when it's cgi. Tarkin was done a bit better then Leia.

I agree Tarkin was slightly better than Leia...that was an abomination. We should have heard her line but only seen her from the back, in her white get up.

Tarkin was uncannily realistic, it was a little jarring seeing this long-dead actor on screen, but full marks to the effects team for pulling it off so well.
However, my gripe. All of that effort spent in recreating his look, could they not have tried a little harder to recreate Cushing's very distinctive voice? It really didn't sound much like him.

I think Tarkin was not perfect and was overused, just to show off the technology.
Leia was great, demonstrated the advantages of the "less is more" approach - but when she uttered that one word, the spell broke, revealing the imperfection in animation. They should've shomehow worked around it, and not have her speak while her face is visible.

I didn't know anything going in and Tarkin had me fooled until I really focused on him. Leia was more obvious like Jeff Bridges in Tron 2

Yeah. People I know who didn't know better didn't catch on to Tarkin. Leia looked a little off, but everyone knew young Leia was a special effect, so they might have been looking more closely.

I didn't see this on the big screen but only just watched it on iTunes. I had read Leia was digital but didn't know about Tarkin. I knew the actors had died so was quite surprised when i saw him digitally and therefore paid attention every time he was on screen. Well done! There were only a few instances that looked off to me in all his screen time which was a lot. It's usually the eyes that i notice but with him they didn't have that dead expressionless look. I would have preferred seeing him in less lighting though, which felt off to me. Sinister characters all always best kept in the shadows. Leia on the other hand, as someone here mentioned, should have not shown her face while talking. When the soldier walked in she should have turned, listened to him, taken the transmission with a closed smile and turn away to speak her line while watching space. Her looked off when speaking.

Leia appearance in the film period felt unnatural to me. Like it was tacked on at the very last second just for the sake of having that additional cameo appearance. The causal "hope" line followed by the smile felt extremely unnatural given the brutal situation they had just _barely _escaped, not to mention the sticky spot were still in with the Empire hot on their trail.
Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'd have preferred that scene be handled some other way. If they had left her frowning or essentially expressionless after the hope line, I think it would have come off a bit better.

I agree. I think she should have turned and given a wink 😉 directly into the camera and said "a new hope".
The house would have come down!
