Why is the rating of this film so abysmally low (62%???)? I just watched it and was surprised by how much depth it had while engaging me as a viewer. I had read about this in my quest to rediscover Valentino but was hesitant to watch it because I thought the subject matter was just too complex and too tragic to appeal to me, especially as a silent film.
But this film did not come across as that and Valentino was very charismatic and sympathetic. I imagine with the wrong actor, his character would not have been as engaging and sympathetic to an audience.

Who are the people on TMDb rating these older films? On IMDB, this film is a 7.9, that's about 79%, not 62% definitely.
There should be a review section here so we can read why others have rated these older films so badly.
I think some people rate movies poorly for all the wrong reasons.

TMDb displayed ratings really can't, and shouldn't, in many instances, be taken at all seriously - especially regarding many old films.
A major issue with current displayed movie ratings is that, in many instances, either no one, or just one or two people, have rated a title in question - and if it just wasn't at all their type of movie they may have rated it something pathetic like just 2 or 3 (of out of possible maximum of 10) stars. Just the other week, when I was adding my own ratings, for everything that's in my current DVDs collection, I noticed that various existing ratings for certain movies were exceedingly low (and definitely not at all deservedly, as they are some critically well regarded films, and that also have always had favourable viewer satisfaction ranking) - but then I'd add my 8, 9, or 10 stars rating, and - just that fast - the shown rating on TMDb shot right up, from let's say originally a 30% to, newly, 65% or whatever. So clearly only just one person - who had obviously not at all "gotten" it, and probably had watched it begrudgingly - and maybe hadn't even watched it all the way through - had rated it before I did.
It can take 2-3 accurate (by which I mean credible and appropriate - the voter actually "having a clue") votes to cancel out a wrong bad vote or two, and to bring the rating up to what it actually should be.

I gave this a high rating, I hope it does make a big difference!

It's now showing rating of 70% on TMDb, though still has a ways to go before it gets up more into the higher rating range that it appropriately and deservedly should show as being in.
