Discuss Captain Marvel

I found this site while looking for an alternative to Rotten Tomatoes. Just curious to know if anyone else is here for the same reason.

I found this site when looking for alternative to IMDB. When they shutdown their message boards.

Are you referring to the fact that RT is basically bought by Disney and other studios. Since the audience score and 'critic' scores almost never match. I came here from the great IMDB exodus.

Far more pathetic than RT's spinelessness; the legions upon legions of overgrown adolescents who couldn't resist the urge to fritter away irreplaceable hours of their lives on social media griping about entertainment that's inherently designed for tykes ages 4-12. Not a one of whom seems remotely aware that they're under no obligation to see the movie, and that "the problem" is remedied by simply buying a ticket to a different movie/watching a classic on Netflix, broadening their minds in the process

I don't think that is the issue at all. Most of the folks complaining about at are most likely to not see it anyway. I think the main problem is that they (Disney/RT) are trying to stem any criticism against it. There is nothing wrong with having an opinion, be that a good or bad one - but they both should be heard. RT in this case is suppressing only those who do not agree with their view. This obviously makes RT completely biased and clearly in the pockets of Disney.

It also woulndt be an issue if they got rid of the 'want to see' button. But since they decided to keep that it just shows the bias and hypocrisy. I think this shit is going to back fire on them and from the looks of it, it already started.

I thought that the only changes were that you could only comment after release, and state that you want (rather than don't want) to see a film? AFAIK you can be as negative as you want after release when you at least might have bothered to watch the movie rather than have a knee jerk reaction.

That said, I imagine that The Incel/Russian Troll armies have the date they can leap into the fray marked in their calendars.

The rampant fake news on this story had lead a lot of folks to believe that comments or reviews about a movie that has yet to be seen were being posted. This is false. RT had always given the option for folks to indicate whether or not they had intentions to see a movie. That's it, no comment or review option was available as it should be. When too many people expressed their intention not to see the movie the option to do so was removed. The only party this could possibly benefit was Disney as it clearly was not in RTs best interest.

Additionaly, it's an easy out to label others incels rather than explore the issue. Can't we raise the level of the discussion a bit?

So basically we are to believe your rant about the ranters is fine but their rant is unacceptable.

In other words, you are on the internet expressing your displeasure of others expressing their displeasure on the internet. Really?

I never used RT, as I've always hated the way that "It's only got a ##% score on RT, so it is indisputably rubbish" is used in arguments, but there are plenty of comments here: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/captain_marvel/reviews/?type=user

This site has a "Watch List", but no "I Don't Want To Watch List". In the pocket of Disney too? Besides, why would anyone without an axe to grind bother stating that the weren't going to watch a film? Life's too short.

As the level of discussion seems to be "lead female characters outside of romcoms/chick flicks = bad", it's pointless trying to raise it.

Again, fake news would lead one to believe there is a significant population that hates strong female characters. A cursory look at the history of strong female characters in media will readily demonstrate that this is a false premise.

Case in point, nothing of the sort happened during the pre- release of Wonder Woman. The complaint surrounding "Captain Marvel" isn't about the movie. It's about the comments of the star. When an actor says they don't want to see as much of a particular race and gender on the press tour it should surprise no one that members of said race and gender indicate that are not planning to see that actors movie. What is so difficult to grasp about that?

Did any of the BG2016 stars make such claims? Did Daisy Ridley or Kelly Marie Tran?

Maybe the lovely Ms Gadot gives them funny feelings in their pee pees, so she gets a free pass.

Same here. When IMDB deleted their forums (a similar move taken by RT) I looked and found this great site. Internet deniznes need a place they can discuss movies as high art and sometimes marketing flops.

Perhaps you may have a point. But the question still remains, where was the "incel" army with Wonder Woman? Or Alien, or Kill Bill, Silence Of The Lambs, Erin Brockovich, the list just goes on and on and on. The incel army is a false narrative designed to silenced opposition to a particular view point. It's playground bullying. Insulting and name calling will not resolve any conflict. It's only used by those who wish to perpetuate conflict.

Could it be that something far more insidious is afoot?

Yep. Mine was in E-Minor, unlike theirs

Right, because that furthers your point and makes perfect sense.

This type of entertainment caters to ages between 4 and at least 40 so shove your pseudo pretention up your ass.

Hopefully the 4 year olds aren't as misogynistic as the 40 year old trolls.
