Is it just me or is this movie starting to look terrible?
I love Marvel, I've seen nearly all of their last 10 movies or so in theaters, but I am getting a really bad feeling about Captain Marvel. They are really leaning into this "strong female character" virtue signaling and that's always a bad sign as evidenced by Ghostbusters, it tells me they can't sell the movie on just being good, they have to try and imply if you don't see it or aren't excited about it you must hate women. The images I've seen look blah and Brie Larson just does not seem like a good fit for this role let alone what she's been saying on social media.
Conversely I never got this feeling with the Wonder Woman movie, and of course movies like Atomic Blonde or Mad Max Fury Road weren't sold on female empowerment even though both films had fantastic female characters and could have easily tried to hype that aspect.
There's a new saying "Get Woke Go Broke" which means that whenever a movie/show/book tries to sell you on how it's so pro woman/gay/trans/minority/whatever while not selling the story or characters then it's pretty much confirmed to be trash and no one buys it. I really hope I'm wrong but I fear the MCU is going to fall into this trap and go the way of Disney Star Wars.

Oh the cliche Manbaby insult. Can you come up with something original. Because originality is sourly lacking now a days. If you want to watch a piece of wood in a cosplay outfit try to act 2 hours. Go ahead, nobody stopping you. I ask why anyone wanted to see it. I didn't say the couldn't see it. Every Review ive seen (even the positive ones) for this movie has said the same thing over and over again. Brie Larson is a lot like watching grass grow and Trailers didn't make her look like she had a bubbling personality. Why would you want to risk your huge franchise on that. Especially when already have characters like Black Widow and Scarlet Witch. Characters that are likable. And while i think Wonder Woman was somewhat mediocre as a movie and at least Gal Gadot was charming and displayed something called a "personality". So Sue me, if im not hyped for Endgame.

We'll see after Far from Home when Marvel states next year's release schedule. Rumor has it the movies to be released next year is Black Widow and Black Panther 2.

I doubt it, but I fully support it getting a billion. It would be the ultimate fuck you to the youtube troll squad that I've been blocking all week (and the past couple of months).

I dont think it will hit 1 billion. Infinity War dropped by 73% 2nd weekend in China. $200.9 to $54.8. I think CM will drop even more, I think probably around 75%. So $88.8 to $22.5. Unless every person in Japan buys a ticket this weekend, a billion is out the question. I dont time travel, I just know.

Box office aside, what did you think of the film Rob?

Honestly, I havent seen it or plan to see it in cinemas at least. But from the reviews from people Ive seen/trust it seems like any other Marvel film. Nothing special or amazing just because Larson/a woman is the lead. A good superhero film, minus the whole feminist angle. but nothing crazy.
I think the second CM film will be even more well received by fans of the MCU. For hardcore fans of the MCU Im sure this is def a must see. But for a casual fan like myself its a pass. Did you enjoy it?

I did like it but it's definitely a mid tier MCU film.
I can honestly say I've found the faux outrage over Brie Larson far more entertaining than the film itself.
(BTW, Larson was very good)
