Discuss Wonder Woman

How many Oscars will this win/be nominated for?

Also, which ones?

I think Best Director and Best Actress nominations are very likely...

Disclaimer: I haven't seen the movie yet... Might catch it on video...

@movie_nazi I thought it might have a chance due to the whole woman issues thing...

Still haven't seen it...

The WW movie is actually pretty good. I think the action scenes are very well done and was fun to watch. I don't want to give the impression that I am a total film snob (which I am grin ) but movies like this get ignored by the Oscars mostly because they are gimmicky tropes engineered to make money. The films that are not money making machines are the ones that need Oscars to get people to watch and to make actors/directors/filmmakers bankable gold. Starring Oscar winning.... or Directed by Oscar winning and so on and so forth.

Most Oscar contenders are too. They are person with ailment triumphing against adversity in a period setting box tickers.

Both types are engineered to make money. I haven't seen Wonder Woman yet but I have no less or more respect for it than I do for The Kings Speech.

The films that are generally in it merely for the art and have no interest in money very rarely get nominated for any big Oscars. The whole show is just a backslapping farce and they have no more right deciding what is worthy and what isn't than anyone else.

Amen to that.

Well the Oscar nomination list is up. I don't see Wonder Woman, but I do see Logan and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 on the list.

Nominations for Best Director, maybe Best Film and some technical stuff possible.

Win? I don't think so. No CBM has ever won in the Best Film and Best Director category. And that is fine. Nominations will do.

As expected by all non fanboys/fangirls it got zero nominations.

Your conclusion and gloating and do not follow from your premise. The film won several awards like recently the Critics' Choice Awards and is nominated for others, and it's the best rated CBM ever on the RottenTomatoes chart. Plus it has a strong political vibe going for it, being the first successful female CBM lead by women on and off screen.

All good ingredients for a nomination. It did not happen at the Oscars. That's life. And life goess on. Does yours?

Moving on.

Having just watched it, it is pretty fun. I can see why it was a hit. It is feminist, but not overbearingly or insultingly so.

But the prospect of Oscars is ridiculous.

My brother Bobby he really like Wonders Woman - he is thinking she is a real sexy lady. Me no so much but I still liking Wonders Woman film it ok. Maybe a bit Thor with the sexy ladies though no? So no so original but it ok no super great but it ok.

Is it really that rediculous, when Get Out is nominated for Best Film and Best Director?

Perhaps I should try to watch Wonder Woman at some point 😁

Fair point. I really didn't like Get Out but even after all it's praise I was still shocked it got nominated.

If you don't like comic book films i can't really see this one being any different for you. It is just more of the same. An entertaining Saturday night but nothing more.
