The third trilogy should have been given to the Star Wars Rebels writers. I think they would have come up with something respectful to the source material but also pushing the saga forward in a new direction.

I think the weakest link in the new trilogy is Kylo Ren. He's too much of a petulant man/child. Darth Vader version 2 he ain't!

Na, just saying this film tends to not-so-subtely hit you over the head with political messages that I wouldn’t be surprised if that was another one. He does fit the bill. Except Kylo Ren doesn’t appear to be a moron.

First, it's gonna be long. Having seen the Star wars movies when I was very young, and then many times on TV or DVD / Blu-ray, I wouldn't say I'm a fan but I consider them as part of building my Science fiction personal universe. Episodes 1 - 3 have their faults but also their qualities. Then episode 7 is announced, after Disney bought the license. Possibly a good movie. Then JJ Abrams is announced at the helm, and I could only hope for a decent movie (hated Alias, hated Lost, barely watched Fringe, won't talk about the full length movies - mainly this guy doesn't know how to conduct a plot or develop characters, he creates innumerable sub plots, 95% of which never go far). So I go see it with 20 guys from my gaming association. When outside only disappointment, sadness or anger. Yeah everyone saw there was no "original" story there, just using A new hope story in every way possible, and even some bits of Return of the Jedi (blowing the generator to kill the shields). I wasn't too much bothered as the images were fine, and Rey and Poe were nice, some new extraterrestrial races, action, only terrible flaw was Finn, the black guy comic relief. But as it did with Star trek 2009 (I'm really a Star Trek fan), it's a few days later I was really mad at what happened (in ST2009, the Star Trek "spirit" wasn't there, there was just some strong personality characters going around and winning in the end, destroying Vulcan on the way as JJ Abrams had the power to do it.). I realized the movie was totally hollow, didn't bring anything new or interesting, had terrible villains - so yeah Kylo Ren is an emo with behavioral problems and Snoke is a 20 ft hologram, non memorable music, bland actions scenes, above terrible secondary characters - shiny metal uniform female officer (ah yes, it has a name Phasma) that moderately threatened by comic relief guy does everything his mortal enemy wants, general Hux with even more bahavioral problems almost funny but not, Maz Kanata possibly a second comic relief but not ... Then comes Rogue one - at first I thought it was the numerous Bothans stealing the plans, but it was the other death star. It took me over a year to watch the movie, so I watched it entirely (guess I lacked energy to fast forward) and it felt just flat. Only the asian martial arts guy is memorable and that's not even original as obviously Star Wars is very inspired of Wuxia movie and eastern philosophies (damn, I just checked IMDB and it was Donnie Yen!!! I didn't even recognize him). I had already doubts about having most of the "good" characters being thieves, assassins, and it didn't help getting any sympathy for them ; the new C3PO is just doing some C3PO stuff and he fights a bit ; Krennic is a generic villain - despite the actor being really good. The scenes with Mads Michelsen are the only ones that are decent and memorable, but chances are it's because he's a very good actor. I only saw Episode 8 because I could see it for free online (yeah, I was already so annoyed by the recent movies I didn't want to spend money for it - my original intention was to wait until the trilogy was for sale and buy it then). The movie begins by the First order attacking a rebel base that makes the rebels evacuate (like in episode 5). Poe makes a suicidal maneuver allowing a bomber to destroy the admiral ship. Rey is on Luke's planet and seeks his help and training, he trains her (like in episode 8). Rey somehow has a link created by the force to talk to Kylo Ren (more on totally stupid uses of the force later). The First order found the rebels because of a tracker, Finn and Rose want to hack the tracker and go to the casino planet where they meet a hacker that betrays them. The rebels flee on Hoth (planet appearing in episode 5). Rey is captured but Kylo Ren kills Snoke (doesn't Vader kill Palpatine in episode 6?) but Kylo is mad and becomes the main villain, he goes to Hoth to kill the rebels. Luke appears and distract Kylo while the rebels escape. A kid uses the force to get a broom. So again there's very strong elements from the old movies used in this one. Why??? fans have been very vocal for 2+ years about the mistake of using episode 4 to o episode 7 and they continue doing it? Yes, there's a lot of new elements, some quite cool, but some major points are very obviously used AGAIN. The whole story is watchable, but in the end it's just barely better than episode 7. So yeah, for now Disney has done a terrible job with the license.

Ever since watching this movie I have this disturbing reoccurring dream where the scene when Luke is milking the "sea-cow" is played out only in my dream the "sea cow"has "Star Wars " written on his forehead and Mark Hamill while "milking"the cow is wearing a Mickey Mouse (ears) cap.
