Discuss Star Wars: The Last Jedi

They finished filming back in July and if it had kept it's original may release date they would have had 10 months in post production which is plenty of time. Even if they couldn't have had it done by may they definitely could have had it done by July or August at the latest. It would be a box office smash regardless of when it's released so it's really silly that they pushed it all the way to December.

It's not all that silly when you think about it. The last thing they should do is put it up against Marvel. Disney would be competing against themselves. It makes more sense to wait for December.

Plus, The Force Awakens made huge bank in December, why not stick with that?

Well Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is in May so I guess it would have been silly to release it there but they could have released it in June or August where there's no marvel movies there (Spider-Man is coming in July). In fact there's less competition in August or September then there is in December.

That was because it was the first star wars film in 10 years and it was an event. It doesn't mean this would make more money in December. No movie is going to make force awakens money for a while.

These movies are nothing but a marketing product. It doesn't matter how fast and cheap they can build it in the first place. They will sell it a the right moment, to make sure they maximize their profits. They don't want people to overdose on Star Wars, one film per year is already a lot compared to Lucas ' schedule, but back then it was real movies. Disney also need enough time to hype up millions of brain dead lemmings by slowly releasing pics and trailer. You'll have your cheeseburger only when you're starving, not when it's ready, it will be cold and tasteless, and you will puke it entirely afterwards.

Well the han solo spinoff is still scheduled for may 2018. Just 5 months after the last jedi.

I wish it had been released this May yes the wait would be shorter and stuff. I am happy that it is December tho like a Christmas Present LOL. I do hope they switch back to May starting with the Han Solo movie.

Maybe they use all the extra time and make it look fantastic. So many more month for the post production is a good thing I suppose and hope.

If Han Solo comes out in May it'll have to compete with Infinity War. I'm sure they'll push it.

They might but hopefully not all the way to December. Filming is underway on it and it's a smaller scale film so they certainly won't need as much time on it as they do for last jedi. They could get a release in June or July where it won't have to compete with a marvel movie.

Han solo has just been confirmed for a May 2018 release date! Thank God!

DIsney probabaly realized the hype is going to fade out quickly, they better rack the billions while they can because the BO will go down with every new movie. Rogue One and Force Awakens would never have made 1 billion if it wasn't for the hype

True so true.

Just like how comic book hype as gone down right? The first MCU movie was released in 2008 and they are still making them 9 years later and most of them make $700+ million even for characters people have never even heard of. Civil War did over a billion and infinity war will do 1.5 billion easy. Disney isn't looking to make a quick buck on Star Wars, they're all about building brands that will last for years now. I bet Han Solo will be pushed to December or Episode IX will come out in May 2019.

Episode IX is still slated for release in May 2019.
