Discuss Pet Sematary

The original was perfectly sufficient. I found myself wishing that I could leave the theater to go watch my DVD of the 30-year-old version, which still feels fresh and vibrant.

Saw this yesterday and I felt...BORED at times! The original got the pacing right considering its simple premise and main plot elements, but this redo got it all wrong! And the "changes" didn't make it "better"..in fact, some in the theater were laughing (I'm sure NOT the filmmakers intention). Even John Lithgow's casting was wasted..he seemd to phone it in...I guess he's got bills to pay!

Yeah, the one major wrinkle they put in was spoiled in the trailer. The rest of it was pretty much the same. John Lithgow was OK but nobody is gonna top Fred Gwynne's performance. The ending was a tad different but it certainly wasn't anything special. And yes, I was getting bored as well.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH ALL COMMENTS....THAT SAID..I REMEMBER A TIME NOT THAT LONG AGO THE ORIGINAL WAS NOT CONSIDERED A CLASSIC..IN FACT IT WAS MORE OR LESS CONSIDERED A LESSER THAN OR A FLOP.FUNNY HOW TIME AND PERSPECTIVE SHIFT SO DRAMATICALLY.

Well, I won't be going to see this one. I am growing very weary of all these "new" versions of old films that were made 25-30 years ago, and did not need a reboot or reimaginings. Sigh, this is just the world we live in now I guess.

SEQUELS,REBOOTS AND REIMAGININGS ARE AS OLD AS MOVIES THEMSELVES.JUST AS PROLIFIC AS WELL.

I always liked it. And it is always my go-to Halloween time movie to show to friends or nieces and nephews who had never seen it before. It's scary but perfectly suitable for anyone 10 and up. Not a single person ever said they didn't like it, although my friend's daughter quit mid-way through cuz she is a fragile type and got freaked out. I guess when it first came out people were shocked because of the young age of the evil Gage. Perhaps it got negative reviews because of that. It is a well-crafted movie and one of the better Stephen King horror genre adaptations. Certainly in the top 5, in my opinion.

IT WAS A BELOW THE AVERAGE LINE FLOP...YOU LIKE IT AS DO I.THUS YOU HAVE REVISIONIST MEMORY.IVE NOTICED A LOT OF "FLOPS" HAVE GAINED FAR GREATER RESPECT AND LOVE AFTER A FEW DECADES PASS.

Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregator, reports that 50% of 30 surveyed critics gave the film a marginally positive review; the average rating is 5.1/10. The website's critical consensus reads, "Pet Sematary is a bruising horror flick that wears its quirks on its sleeves, to the detriment of its scare factor."[25] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 38 out of 100 based on 12 critics, indicating "generally unfavorable reviews".[26] Audiences surveyed by CinemaScore gave the film a grade b.Pet Sematary was ranked #16 on IFC's list of the best Stephen King film and television adaptations.

16?? That's BS. Name 15 horror adaptations that are better than the original Pet Sematary. Below are all I can come up with and many are as good, not better...

  1. The Shining
  2. The Dead Zone
  3. Carrie
  4. Misery
  5. Gerald's Game
  6. The Mist
  7. It (the film, not the crappy TV version)

Hahaha. I guess putting the # symbol in front of a number changes the font size. I learned something new today.

I FULLY AGREE.I ALSO VERY MUCH ENJOY PET SEMATARY..IT WAS NOT A HIT UPON RELEASE THOUGH..IT TOOK HOME VIDEO AND PILE OF YEARS FOR IT TO FIND ITS PLACE ON THE SHELF.

Well, I don't think anyone considers the original one a classic. I loved it as a kid but watching it as an adult you can see its a bit cheesy but still fun. I wouldn't call it a classic though.
