Is this an age or just a personality thing re best vs favourite?

Can you elaborate - e.g. are you saying this is what you'd think the majority other people would say was "the best"?

See, I think this film is inferior to Batman Returns and that is because whilst the "Heat"-style aesthetics may lead a lot of people to hail this as some sort of cinematic "masterpiece" I just didn't appreciate it in terms of a Batman movie. Therefore, for me, it is not the best -Batman Returns hits the nail on the head re comic book-stylisation therefore I consider it the best & my favourite...

critically acclaimed across the board, oscar winner. No other comic book movie achieved such success.

Batman 1989 felt like a proper Batman movie, Returns was too much of a Burton film gone wrong.

Batman Returns is my go-to of all the films... I wasn't a massive fan of Batman '89 but saw 'Returns' at the cinema... The Schumacher films were obviously dirge... Then I saw Batman Begins and have to say it didn't do it for me in the way the '89 version didn't (I don't want to say bored me, but... Didn't excite me is probably what it is...) so I wasn't overly eager for another by the same director even with all the praise it was being given... Then with the announcement of a third movie from Nolan I checked out TDK and really dug it, I even agreed with people loving Heath Ledger's acting... The comparisons to Heat are a bonus for me as I love that film and are well founded, but for me Returns is my favourite and probably forever will be due to the gothic undertones, Pfeiffer's Catwoman, the music, the sets, dark comedy... This, for me at least is the best of the Batman movies so far...

Some things are a lot more subjective than others. For example: Batman and Robin is a bad film. That's very objective. It clearly is. It's a fact. To say Batman Returns is a bad film is a lot more subjective. It's down to personal taste. You can look at it in different ways. No matter which way you look at Batman and Robin, it sucks.

The Dark Knight is the best Batman film but it's probably not my favourite either. I think I like Tim Burton's version better because I prefer the mystery. But that's just a personal preference. The Dark Knight is a deeper film with better filmmaking behind it.

You also might have a personal connection to a film because you relate something in it to something in you're own life.

I think the general consensus comes into play a lot here too. Citizen Kane is regarded as the best film ever made. But how many people have you met who consider it their favourite?

So I think the whole 'best vs favourite' is definitely a thing.

Once when i was out with friends for a vacation and between silent spaces when somebody said say something , i replied Rosebud . And now your post made me think about Citizen Kane again. That's about it.

Just make sure that when you do eventually pass from this world that in your final moments you remember to say a mysterious and ambiguous word that will confound your gathered family and friends with mystery and send them spiraling on a never ending expedition through the history of your existence.

Nolans Batman movies are the only good ones. Everything else is crappola.

I liked batman begins, not so much the other nolan movies, infact i dont think i finished either of the other two

Its my second favorite comic adaptation, I think Im the only one who even likes this film but I would put Watchmen at no.1

uh, by who. My film studies teachers used to make that claim and yet I know literally no film buffs that put that in thier top ten even.

Exactly. That's exactly my point.

older people, non film buffs, people who stopped watching films in the 60s, most are dead now so this citizen kane crap will fade shortly

also i hated watchmen (i dont like comic movies in general though but watchmen was fucking pretentious. even the fact that it is a 'graphic novel' and not a comic book is pretentious)

Hmmm. I always found it interesting that in the credits for the TV show "The Walking Dead," they say it's based on graphic novels and not comicbooks.

Citizen Kane is technically brilliant, a true work of genius. It's also rather cold and a bit dull. I prefer the flawed Magnificent Ambersons.
