Discussão Amantes Eternos

I love how Jarmusch takes into consideration the amount of knowledge one would be able to attain if they had eternity on their side. When I first saw the film I kinda scoffed at how the main characters would mention the geniuses of history in a casual and familiar manner as though anybody whoever had a decent idea in history ever, got it from them. It kinda pokes at the idea that in order to obtain that sort of genius one would have to had had eternity on their side or at the very least know someone who has. Eve mentions in passing about the time Adam gave Schubert a string quartet or when the lights go out Adam makes his way to the basement where he has built his own generator based on the supposed theories of Tesla. They both have an Encyclopedic knowledge of plants and animals calling them by their Latin genus names. Then I thought about it. If one indeed was alive for thousands of years, the only way to keep your sanity would be to constantly challenge yourself to learn new things. Adam's suicidal depression is at first, easily understood but it did push me to ask what any good vampire film worth its weight in salt asks: Is eternity worth it? Is it worth giving up daylight, food, possibly sex, and having to live off of drinking human blood? The answer is: Fuck yes. 🤘

Cool, I will give it a watch. (also (have to had had eternity)

I like it and and have watched it a number of times, but I get the sense that Jarmusch injected his own interests into the narrative, which I guess is ok. The interest in old Detroit, and old guitars, I suspect came straight from Jarmusch.

Spoiler ahead:

I like how the vampires strive to live atypical lives and yet resort to the vampire cliche at the very end in order to just survive.

Yeah, but I think they were just in a spot and had to do what they had to do. And Detroit is actually a perfect place for a vampire to hide out where you have block after block of abandoned homes. I didn't mind the guitar bit and thought it was pretty cool how Eve could name it by simply touching it. I'm not a huge Jarmusch fan but I do like a few of his films and usually end up digging what he is trying to do in them.
