That's because it's terrible. Lucky for Howell they never play it.

It's available for streaming on the Urban Movie Channel which you can subscribe to through Amazon. Outside of that it seems to be pretty rare. I have no real memory of it since watching as a kid in the 80s.

I'm watching the special features disc on my Friday the 13th Scream Factory Box and there's an interview with director Steve Miner...he mentions this film briefly as he was trying to sway away from the horror genre. The subject of this film DOES NOT hold up today! A rich white kid who's daddy decides not to pay for his Harvard education fakes being another race to gain that race's scholarship, wears Black face and pretends to be African American?!?! Cry me a river white boy, daddy got ya! Bury this sh***y film!

Nevermind the fact that C Thomas Howell's facial features made him look about as black as Pat Morita. Scratch that. Pat Morita could probably pass for black easier.

Somehow, I've a sneaking suspicion this movie is better than reviews suggest.

I've never seen it, and I could be wrong. I just wanted to go on record with this hypothesis pending my getting a chance to sit through it and form a more informed opinion.

I don't want to fan a flaming discussion for the sake of it, so I'll hold off citing the basis for my hypothesis. When I get to see the movie and find some resonance with this initial position, then the background will have proven to have had value; if however, the reviews at face value are right, then I was wrong, and there's no need to delve deeper into my misguided attempt to apply an idea that is simply not applicable here. (but, those who "know" me on this forum could guess the ball park I'm in).

Either way, should be fun.
