For me, I just go with it. So they’re ghosts. But others find the concept morbid. I remember the scathing review Leonard Molten gave Casper in 1995. Yeah its dark, people trying to kill each other to make them ghosts, but for me it was a cartoon feel, so I didn’t mind.
In this movie, a group of ghosts who look over a boy from birth, deciding to vanish at age 6, and then reemerge 21 years later, thats an original concept... too original for many.
The storyline of Ghosts was too original for most, and they couldn’t cast who they wanted, and had to settle for Patrick Swayze. Of course, the rest is history.
These days, studios dont want to take risks on stories, and like to make novels into movies (a built in audience is the thinking.)
So I don’t think this would get made again.
